in Cutting tax
Hi!
Don't know if anyone will be able to help from these scant details!
Basically I was informed last year I underpaid income tax by £68. Not entirely sure how that happened as I'd been with the same employer for the past three years.
Anyway, come 31 March 2006 I was made redundant and was subsequently unemployed until middle of July 2006 (didn't claim JSA due to redundancy payment), when I started a long term temping contract. Believe code for this temping was 493L or summat similar.
This contract fnished on 11 Jan 2007, and I was out of work until 26 Jan 2007.
Therefore I'm thinking that not only have they not taken my unemployment into account last year which should counteract my dues to them, but I may be eligible for a small refund???
Anyone know anything!

Look on your pay slips and see if you paid any tax. If you did then and you earned less than 5035 gross you may be due a refund.0

It's possible that the £68 is a 'potential underpayment' rather than an actual amount owed - if the £68 is being collected through your PAYE code as we speak, it is almost certainly a potential underpayment. If you've not had an assessment (P800 anyone?) that shows it's an actual amount owed, call HMRC for clarification. It may be you don't owe it at all.
If you do owe it, it cannot be offset by any repayment you may be owed from 2006/07 until the year is finished. If you think a repayment is likely, send your P60 (and P11D) to HMRC as soon as you have it so they can check.Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.0
