final year of Uni and in dire need of a loan

I am in desperte need of some income. and Dont know where to start.

I have started claiming charges back off Yorkshire bank and in the process of highlighting charges from capitol one--but I am in dire need of funds.

I have an overdraft of only 600 pounds and have 30 pounds available as I write yet my next installment doesnt go in till April 9th.

In December I had to cancel all D/D's in ordere to prevent charges by DD's being refused and so January I have double up and paid all my bills. but now have no money.

I have a 17 year old daughter who is studying at college who I get approximatly 160 pound a month. her boyfriend lives with us and buys the food.

Because I have no benefits as such, I cannot get a loan which the bank recomended to reduce expenditure.

My outgoings consist of petrol (160month)
and car expenses(insurance- 44, Tax (10) my parents stepped in and MOT'd it,
food top ups when necessary,
mobile phone(35 mth)
gas and electric (160 month)
House insurance and contents(34)
gas insurance( 26)
house phone and net(60 ish)
2 Settees'- 75 (interest free with only 10 month to go)
PC (40 a month-1 yr to go)
laptop(29-8 months to go) a debt to Lewis group 10 a month(been paying 10 yrs now-it was 1,000 CCJ)
Capitol one(30 a month-although they keep charging me 20 plus interest for being over my limit-I started as 6 pounds over limit 3 years ago-I am now 300 despite not using it)
water DD(23 a month)
Child insurance (26- I pay it for Mum-she gives it me when I need it--thats gomne in advance) and
I have a bed to start paying for at the end of the month-(approximatly 80 a month-interest free for 10 months).

I recently had a new kitchen but this is defferred till Xmas of 2007--I have a job lined up for June 2007 with a LA, starting on 25 thousand a year.

Apart from the bed, and I think the gas and electric(I have been leaving these till FINAL reminder and then plan to set DD up again)
I am up to date with payments BUT MY DAUGHTER(17 YEARS OLD) has been crying with worry about the situation.
Because of depression,I tend to bury my head and if it wasant for her I would be spiralling out of control-she is ALWAYS telling me I cannot afford things.

I have tried for a loan with 3 differant companies to consolidate and reduce outgoings on advice of bank, but have been unsuccesful.

I do not have enough money to live on never mind pay things.

Is there anything I can do?
when I appealed to Capitol one on phone the other day-I was more or less forced to pay 50 pound I couldnt afford or face 24 pounds additional charges-when I explained my situation they would not listen , and I tried to explain I was claiming charges back but they STILL refused to be reasonable, simply saying I need to pay MINIMUM 50 and better still 230.

I would really appreciate some advice as I am in the middle of finals and a dissertation and cannot cope with any more stress.
I also cannot burden my daughter with this, so NEED to address it but how?

Thanks,

Janet

  • HIya Janet,

Welcome to mse. You are not alone, and have come to the right place. My first thought was you need to earn some money at the moment.

Have you got anything you could ebay? Between yourself, daughter and boyfriend i'm sure you could come up with loads of unwanted things? Ebay would be your first port of call, for quick cash, which would tide you over.

    Hi there Janet.

I read your thread and immediately thought you should start to reclaim some charges, especially from Capital One, if you are sucessful here, you need to pay some things off. Secondly the Gas and Electric seem awfully high, can't you see if you can get cheaper from alternative suppliers.
I'm sure that somebody will be along shortly who will go through your SOA with a fine toothcomb and come up with lots of advice.
  • I have sold via ebay lots of things over the past 2 years just to keep afloat.
I do still have some china to sell and a banjo--dont ask, as well as some crown derby.
my daughter has applied for a job and Lee works for an agency but isnt needed at the moment-although actively seeking work.

I have to say, I did not realise my outgoings until i wrote them down but looked at my bank statement and have been switching alot.
I realise i am spending too much- bought new tiles and paper etc to do kitchen up when loan went in-arghhhhh..

also, and I am not making excuses here-I have been on anti depressants -prozac-that has numbed me the last year(and also accounted for the Lewis debt from years ago when I was on it before)

the result was an emotionally destitute being that couldnt find interest in anything( perhaps spending) and worst of all, my degree.
I saw the Dr early January and have come off that and the result is-my taking responsibility all round-finance, work, uni, exams, dissertation, revision, even sorting 2 bin liners full of EHN, time Magazine and NewScientist out.

I am getting there and addressing my lack of money is a further proof.

re working-I really do not feel I could complete my final 5 months and work---wimp I know, but I do not want to fail at this point--and THAT is good news!

I will look at ebaying and hope more advice follows-Thanks so much

    Janet
