Advice please guys

Hey, Sorry if this is the wrong forum guys

Firstly let me explain a tad. Couple of months ago I bought a guitar pedal off ebay, I didnt realise i had my mobile phone bill coming out my account so when paypal asked for the 165 for the pedal i had something like 160.. So it ended up in them paying it.. I didnt realise this though. So i message the ebay seller, said sorry about the payment failing ill send it again. He goes thats ok mate ill send when i receive payment. So i send it, then he sends the pedal.

Couple of weeks later i received a message from paypal informing me of a negative balance, they explained that they had paid for it. I explained how the seller must of had the payment twice. Paypal said its nothing to do with them and that i should contact the seller. I did this several times with no reply, he finally said he would send me a cheque 3 weeks ago.. Didnt receive it, now he says he will bank transfer on monday.

But my paypal account as been locked and there demanding the other 100 (already paid off 65 and was waiting for the ebay seller to send me the refund so i could pay the 100)..

Right the debate is as you know im 17 and really shudnt be using Ebay or paypal. But of course i am and its a bit late to change now. But should i tell paypal this cus i believe they carnt charge me if im under 18? I was curious if i can get into trouble for using it under 18, what i should do etc??

Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Alan

declaring your age is going to muddy the waters further. you really should be asking the seller to do a paypal refund of one of the payments, that way he won't pay charges for that payment and the money goes straight into your paypal account.

  • Seller says his closed his paypal account mate. This is where the difficulties occur :( Its not even my fault(In my opinion it isnt anyway). Ive found paypal to be very difficult on this. All the emails seem to be saying the same thing. As if there just using reply templates

My OH has had probs with PayPal, all their email coming back in the middle of the night containing very poor english (it seems they are based in India).

Be persistant, email them every day. They do have people based over here, its just a case of getting to the point that they call you

  • I might phone them next week.. Had enough of it now..

Be aware that any money that is paid into your account will be swallowed by this negative balance, if you try to make a payment out of the account they will demand money to clear this balance on top of the payment you want to make.

If you want to continue to use paypal before this is sorted, I would be inclined to open a different paypal account.

If the money doesn't arrive in the next few days I would complete the online small claims court paperwork, don't submit it but print it off and send to the seller in the post. It may encourage him to take action. I'm just suspicious that he has closed his paypal account, I thought paypal wouldn't close accounts until 6 months after the last transaction.

phoning paypal - your optomistic, youd be better off finding a fax number and faxing them, at least they have to read faxes.

  • So basically you advise against telling them my age mate? What would be the consequences etc?

    what would you gain?

I expect they would freeze your account. they would then ask you to fax ID to them including copies of passports etc and generally cause you hassle. they would probably also freeze your ebay account(s). (Ebay owns paypal.)

  • I was basically wondering whether they would still make me pay the bit left. Guess im better off just waiting for the seller to pay me back. Thing is theve locked my account now. And say i have to pay by cheque or postal order. Takes the biscuit i swear..

I would lay off telling them your age just now, but keep it in reserve.

If you can get it sorted another way it's best for you because you still get to keep the account. But if it doesn't work then you might be able to hit them with that.

My nephew got into serious trouble when he joined a gym then stopped going and didn't pay. They were going to take him to court but his Dad went down to sort it out. He noticed that the lad had signed the contract shortly before his 18th birthday.

He just pointed out that the contract wasn't legal - end of story.
  • If seller sends the money i guess ill pay it off... Prolly easiest
