I usually dye my own hair with nice n easy but decided to get it done properly at the hairdressers with this:
http://www.sallyexpress.com/viewProduct.aspx?pid=100532
which comes out a lovely golden/red/brown
Being MSE, I now want to dye it myself, so if I get the dye from Sallys, what/how much developer would I need?
I've found this online:
http://www.windsorbeauty.com/mixing_applications.pdf
so I take it that as I've some grey hair I would need 6%/20 vol developer
Any suggestions? I will venture into Sally's and ask but just wanted to get an idea of what I'm asking for first....

sure a hairdresser will be along soon
, i use Rusk colour & developer from Sally's. info here, for grey coverage i use the 3% mix in a ratio of 1 part colour to 1.5 parts developer (usually 30ml each of 2 diff colours & 90ml developer), works a treat & i'm very happy with the results.
be careful asking in sally's as i was advised incorrectly & got the 6% developer even though i'd told the assistant all the relevant info. i know most of them won't be qualified hairdressers, but i'd rather she had said 'don't know' than give me wrong advice!0 -
Thanks Abbie, yes aware that Sally's may not know exactly, so I wanted to get some ideas beforehand......I have only been into it a few times and am a tad intimidated not knowing the lingo in terms of percentages etc!!0

they're really good coverage on my grey, no fade, pleasant smell & my hair is in much better condition after using it.
you could trying asking on salon geek if no joy on here, i'm not too sure how much info you'll get as professionals can sometimes be a bit guarded over the info they give out (on Sallys facebook page, if anyone asks a specific question they always get advised to ask their hairdresser) - no offence to any hairdressers as i completely understand it's best for a professional to be doing these things!0 -
Haven't been on the site for a few days, so sorry if I am too late to help.
If you have some grey 6% peroxide is the best bet, you need to use the same amount colour as peroxide, plus, if you have lots of hair you may need more than one tube, although the peroxide will probably last a fair amount of tubes. So if you use one tube (i think they are 60ml, but check) you would need 60ml of peroxide (a peroxide measure would be helpful, you can also buy them at sally and they are only pennies). Don't be tempted to use more peroxide, all it will do is water the colour down.
Good luck xStarting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -
If you are only "doing the roots" you will only need 1/3 to 1/2 a tube, mixed with equal measurements of peroxide. I trained as a hairdresser and can usually get 3 lots of roots from one tube.8 months to go till end of the IVA :j:rotfl::T0

Thanks everyone for the replies - took the plunge on Sunday and used 3%/10vol with the whole tube and it has turned out really well. I was terribly smug and nearly at the point of doing "Blue Steel" from Zoolander. Joesaunt, you're right, I will probably only need to use a third for the roots. Kazipoo,I will have to get one of those peroxide measures as my Pyrex jug wasn't quite as accurate as I hoped!!0
