Hi All
Mr 4Chickens and I have gone all adventurous and are going to Gumbet in Turkey on 19th April (well I am, he's just tagging along).
I was wondering if any of you have been there or know someone who has. What the cost of food and drinks are as we are staying in a 4 star hotel, bed and breakfast.
Are there mozzies there?
Can you drink the tap water?
What sort of clothing should we pack? We have two 10kg hand luggage and one 20kg hold luggage allowance.
And anything else you think we should know.
I have been on trip advisor and it has good reviews but not a huge amount of detail
Cheers

A newbie to Turkey
Well done for finally taking the plunge so to speak, you'll love it, the people are really friendly, prices are slightly lower than here, do yourself a favour and try and get off the tourist track, you'll find prices are a lot lower.
Th mozzies shouldn't be around much in April but take your mozzie sparay in case or buy a lemon spray from a local shop.
Don't drink the tap water, it's ok to brush your teeth in it but thats all and bottled water is cheap enough, if you suffer from dodgy tummy when going abroad make sure they don't put ice in your drinks, a handy couple of turkish word "boo sue" (not correct spelling, it's for the sound) means no ice in turkish. The locals love it if you try to speak the language:
Merhaba: Hello
Teshekur ederim: Thank you
Lutfen: please
You'll soon pick it up
Clothing, you won't need much, it;s pretty hot even in April
Enjoy Turkey, you'll love it and deffo return, one last tip never buy property from mustafa blogs in the bars, they are not rel emlaks "estate agents" and you could get into a lot of trouble financially as even a small deposit counts as buying.0 -

Thank you for your reply, I shall probably invest in a second hand Turkish phrase book from Amazon.
I will definately take mozzie spray, the little blighters will cross whole continents to drink my blood (must be they like pinot grigio and chardonnay and southern comfort).0 -
I went to Gumbet on a lads holls, cant remember that much about it!
Having been around Turkey a bit we've found Kas to be the nicest part - I mention this in case someone is new to Turkey and wanting some info. Clean, traditional, pretty, amazing restaurants, very atmoshperic. We stay just outside the town on the Kas peninsular which is the snaking out to see piece of land you can see here;0 -
Hi 4chickens - went to Gumbet year before last, and loved it. The resort itself is a busy resort with lots of bars, etc, but lovely. The beaches were all very clean and well kept, most of the hotels up the end where we were staying had private beaches in front of the htels, which was good as it was quiet, and we were guaranteed sun beds etc.
Not sure what you are after on your holiday, but there is an absoloutly lovely resort a short taxi ride from Gumbet - called Bitez. Beautiful restaurants right on a stunning beach, definatly worth a trip there - we found about it from a local on about our 4th night, and went there every night after that as we werent into the loud music scene in Gumbet itself - chilled out music, lovely bars, and food!
If you need any other info, feel free to ask and I will try to help!0
