Anybody want to buy a spreadsheet?

Hello

Being something of a mathematician, I occasionally put spreadsheets together that can be used for checking mathematical calculations (a bit sad I know... but they do have their uses)

A friend of mine saw them and said that I might be able to sell them! He suggested students, schools, universities etc as a potential market.

Does anyone know how likely this is? If there is interest how I could go about this e.g. advertising it, selling it, collecting money, ensuring that no one simply takes it and sells it themselves..?

I suppose another consideration would be Microsoft itself. I suppose you couldn't just sell something that was created on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet without their consent.

Many thanks.

You might have some success using freelancer sites, offering your Excel services. I'd not count on making a lot of money from it though unless you have a useful "killer idea" - there are too many free resources out there, and if you need a spreadsheet that will do your accounts or somesuch it's normally easy enough to find one.

  • You have the basis of a product idea. You need to get specific and think of exactly what problem this solves and who would be the target market for it. A better idea would be creating a step-by-step training pack so that people can easily put things together themselves eg a series of short screen captures videos with voice-overs from yourself explaining things. Training is of much higher value than a spreadsheet because there are lots of free resources out there
