Divorce and the morgage - advice required

Hi there,
Sorry if this is in the wrong section but was after a bit of morgage advice...
My dad had a morgage on his own and his new wife moved in and paid off £33k (which she had left when she sold her house) and this paid off my dad's last bit of the morgage.
He had her name added to the morgage and was asked what percentage of the house he wanted to be hers...he said 50% and the solicitor looked at him like he was nuts!
Today is my dad's birthday and his wife has told him she wants a divorce...lovely present...
He is worried about the house as well as other things...if they are happy to settle without solicitors, could he simply pay off the £33k or would she be able to ask for half of the current value of about £140k then meaning solicitors would have to get involved? Meaning he would have to try and get a new morgage to own the house during the last 10 years or so whilst he works? She has told him she hasn't loved him for ages
Would be grateful for any advice...

Do you mean title deeds instead of mortgage?
If there's a legal agreement between the parties then that will form the basis of division of the asset.
To amend this would require agreement between the parties.0
