Tax returns, are they really worth it?

I mainly ask as I've never done one, but never really had the need for one.
Previously employed at under 14k a year with that only rising in the last 4 months or so to just 14k, have checked the 'are you paying the right tax' calc on the site here and never found I was over or under paying according to their figures.
So the question is, is this whole rigmarol really worth it?

Why would you need to complete one? If you're on a standard tax Code (747L or thereabouts) then PAYE will take care of virtually everything if your financial affairs are other than complex.
