Well I caved today, we've been eating out of the freezer for a few days now(before I posted my list
) but I went shopping!
Only spent £5 though
I got;
- 2 x Passata
- Tin of ratatouille
- Iceberg Letuce
- 1 tomato(that I was over charged for :@)
- 4 Small Avocados (reduced to 25p)
- Big bunch of coriander (reduced to 19p)
- 2 cooked chicken breasts(reduced to 95p)
- 5 seeded bagels - reduced to 35p
- 2 onions
So didnt think that lot was bad for just under a fiver, was finding it very hard to cook and use up some of my tons of pasta with no passata in the house!September Grocery Challenge £0/£2250 -
4 avocados for 25p?! What a score!
My week is deffo not going to plan in that we aren't really sticking to the meal plan, however I haven't shopped since last Thurs :j
Should be doing my weekly shop today but have enough in to give it a miss! Although, we do need some bananas so will pop to the local shop for them as there is less temptation.
Last night I used our 1 gammon steak from the freezer and sliced it thinly, seared it in a hot pan and stir-fried it for a while with mange tout, peppers, onion & garlic and carrot. Added a big dollop of wholegrain mustard and half a pack of value cream cheese and served with noodles (that have been in my cupboard for waaaaaaaay too long)
I'd prepped all the meat & veggies for tea and was waiting for OH to get home before I started cooking, when he called to say that he'd just popped in the butcher and bought some chicken breasts so was going to do a roast for tea (Our budgets are separate so this is frankly a big fat bonus as far as I'm concerned!)
Managed to put him off till tonight, so will be waited on hand and foot tonight :T
Keep up the good work guys! xxJan '12 GC; £74.66/£100£2 saver club member #1070 -

I know! and they weren't even ripe so they'll last a while
That gammon stir fry thing sounds amazing, I love anything with a cream cheese sauce.
I did buy some food today, well technically OH bought it and it was reduced stuff, I got some tapas stuff(2 types of olives, cubes of feta and cream cheese stuffed peppers) reduced from £4.49 to £1.12, some GU puddings down to 89p and some creme fraiche down to 32p.
Also bought some make up which was naughty, but I was paid todaySeptember Grocery Challenge £0/£2250 -
gosh you've had some great bargains!
Mind you it was bargains like those that got my freezer straining at the seams in the first place (I'm particularly looking forward to my £1.39 leg of lamb!).
We ended up having a beef and Xmas leftover stilton pie on Wed and a cheeky fish and chip supper last night so I'm cracking on with smoked salmon pasta tonight, a lasagne tomorrow and a roast pork dinner on Sunday.
Is anyone up for another week of this as I've still loads of food to get through?:o0 -

Disaster!!
We ended up having my yellow stickered lamb yesterday so I've got at least 2 and possibly 3 meals worth of leftovers to add to the meal plans. I also got rid of some xmas panetone in a luxury bread and butter pudding so it was a good weekend from that point of view.
Unfortunately I had a migraine so while most of the weekend cooking was done by my lovely DH, I'm still feeling a bit rough today and we are going totally off plan. We'd bought some treat foods in Aldi yesterday so we are having a 'harvester style' platter of ribs, wedges, onion rings, corn on the cob, coleslaw, garlic bread, southern fried chicken. Yummy but naughty.
Does anyone else find that when they are eating out of the freezer they find themselves buying more luxury things than they would otherwise and spending the same as usual? I only popped to Aldi for essentials like milk and ended up with lots of treats (crisps, sweets, waffles frozen stuff etc). Perhaps it's because I was feeling ill and wanted spoiling, or perhaps it's because I like the treats in Aldi but usually shop in Tesco when I've lots to get, hmm....0
