I had a very similar experience and had a free consultation with an employment solicitor who gave some very good advice on how to proceed. I was then offered a no-win, no-fee deal which I took. The case has been concluded now but it was a long, hard fight and please do not underestimate how upsetting it can be if your employer decides to fight it every step of the way.
I wish I had known what jobbingmusician stated as my employer used this threat as well as threatening to make sure I never got another job and taking me to court for fraud and theft from the company! Although these claims were false it's still worrying to be accused and possibly have to go to court to defend myself.
Just wanted you to know it won't be a walk in the park and will be even harder of you represent yourself but it does feel great to stand up for your rights and MSE was a lifeline for advice on the steps you have to take to get the result you want.
