Itchy back - crawling sensation - suggestions

I have been having problems for some time with a very itchy back. There is nothing to see, no redness or anything and I have no medical conditions. It feels like a crawling sensation is the best way to describe it. Some days I can only wear a light tee against my skin it feels so itchy, usually around the shoulder blades.
Anyone got any folk remedies for this sort of thing which does not seem to be a medical condition.

Has a doctor told you that it isn't a medical problem?
If so, I would be running back and screaming for a second opinion!
Especially if it is causing you to wear certain types of clothing over others.Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -
Yes recently had a check up and all is fine. Only medical condition is a small hiatal hernia and some dodgy teeth). Otherwise fit and well. No apparent cause for itchy back.0

Do you get itchy anywhere else? History of any thrush/yeast type infections?
There is a small chance it could be related to "candida overgrowth". Some doctors believe in this, others don't, it' more of a homeopathy thing I guess. I'm not a doctor but I definitely believe in it as I had many of the symptoms and was always itchy everywhere to the point it was embarassing, following a basic anti-candida diet dramatically reduce my itching and other symptoms.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
I had something like this a year or so ago, drove me mad with the itching. In the end went to the doctors and she said it was a viral rash and would eventually go but could take awhile which it did. Mine was across my shoulders and neck area. I got some Aloe Vera gel from the health shop which helped take the itchiness off for awhile. It did eventually go.0

Washing powder allergy springs to mind, but you would presumably be itchy elsewhere. Maybe an antihistamine would help in the short term?
Maybe shampoo allergy, but then you would expect to see something on the skin. Does it happen or the time? Just wondering if certain foods/drink spark it off.....
that's all I can suggest.0 -
My OH suffers with this and he finds E45 cream helps a lotmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I have this problem along with really itchy shins. A few people on this forum recommended Aveeno & I have to admit it has helped. I have also been washing my clothes on an extra rinse cycle.
I also think central heating doesen't help. My skin is really drying out at the moment & I think having the heating on isn't doing it any good.0 -
Could it be an allergic reaction to your shampoo or a reaction to a cat/dog/bird in the house. Change shampoo or rinse your hair to the front and see if it helps.0

I get that from time to time, but all over, the only thing that worked was Psoriderm bath. Stinks to high heaven, but the relief was incredible.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll
