Possibly two or three times a month as either sausages or breaded fish.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order

We only have minced steak, if that; my wife hates mince with a passion so I tend to do veggie spaghetti bolognese etc or just chunks of beef in chillis when we do have it. To be honest we so very rarely have cottage pie, spag bol and those sorts of dishes anyway as I consider them to be too 'stodgy' and would only have a small amount with a heap of veg. I find a plate of white carbs and sludgy meat quite uninspiring!
Neither of us really like sausages but I do buy good quality ones for DD who is three - my father comes from a culture that doesn't eat pork and, unlike my Irish mother, I find it quite repulsive on the whole for some reason. We do, however, both like burgers; we have minted lamb burgers on the BBQ in the summer but I'll always make these with good quality minced lamb. Rubbery packaged freezer fodder looks awful to me and it's something I'd never feed my family. I'd much rather serve something veggie than them eat cheap chicken nuggets or greyish rubbery burgers.0 -
As others have said, mince from a reliable source isn't processed in the grocery sense. If you count mincing meat as processed, then so is a homemade loaf or meat cut up for a pie! Even good quality ham isn't any more processed than that you'd cook at home, and neither are good quality sausages - not that I'm a great fan of sausages, so we eat those about once every two weeks, and ham about the same. Bacon we might eat once a month, but again usually good quality from local award-winning farms. The only food we eat fairly frequently that I'd call processed is baked beans.0

Basically never.
I don't consider mince to be processed either - as long as you buy decent produce to begin with. And then it's cut with loads of veggies so it's practically a health food
I do like sausages, but they're a rare occurence.0 -
I guess it depends what you call processed we have about 1 pack of mince a week but I bulk this out with veg and lentils and oats so it lasts a few days. We dont normally have ham or chicken we have sausages every few weeks. Most of the meat we have I buy as joints and do in the SC as it's cheaper.February GC £261.97/24 NSDS 10/12

Hmmm Interesting.
I guess the recent 'scare' in the media did prompt my question, or at least got me thinking about how much we're eating.
I guess we're eating more sausages than most on here, mince is usually once or twice a week as a norm, more the last few weeks as i've had a few portions extra in the freezer and if I really think about it our meals are bulked out with lentils and veggies so the portion size of mince eaten is less.....
On a plus we hardly ever buy ready meals so don't eat that type of processed meat and again hardly ever eat ham.
I know as with everything else, everything in moderation should be fine but it was what everyone classed as 'moderation' that got me thinking.
Thankyou to everyone who posted your views, very interesting:j Mortgage Free!! )Generally trying to cut back where possible :j0 -
