Hi
I am completing an expenses claim for my husband to submit to inland revenue via an accountant.... to keep the accountant costs down im trying to supply as much info as possible...
As such Im trying to find what the weekly or monthly cost of a travelcard or equivalent from 2005 onwards for travel within the london zones (mainly zone 5--> zone 1)...
Anyone got any clues where I could find this information as my searches are not finding anything...
Thanks

Surely the accountant will want some evidence that your husband actually purchased a travelcard, such as a receipt or a bank or credit card statement showing the purchase. I can't believe that HMRC will just take your word for it.0

Obviously he has some but not all....trying to fill in the blanks....0

But I don't think knowing how much the travel cost was will help you if you don't have the receipts to submit. Hopefully someone who knows more than me will be able to tell you for sure whether it's worth you pursuing this, if it is then you might have more luck posting on the Motoring, Public Transport & Cycling board where people with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things transport related are likely to be able to help.

given how far back you are going the next obvious question has to be asked - with a blanket ticket like a travekl card are you sure you can claim all of it anyway?
does OH's work allow him to clearly distinguish between allowable travel to clients and unallowable ordinary commuting?
how will you separate out personal use?0 -
He's a construction worker. Inland revenue held a site meeting informing the workers at olympics how to reclaim such expenses. Being Employed and not self employed many did not realise they were entitled to claim and as such do not have receipts etc.
Obviously they will not be taking only his word for it as the employer has all details of which sites he has been sent to and when.
As i said, he has some tickets/statements but not all.
Many of his coworkers have already sucessfully claimed.
Im assuming that no one here can actually help with the question i asked.

If you think it's going to work then do what I said in post #4 to try to get the information you're after. Feel free to thank anyone you think has helped.0

Not having receipts is not exactly the end of the world. There are ways around it. Believe it or not HMRC simply cannot say “No receipts, no allowance.”
In Investigation / Enquiry work a standard HMRC technique is to establish the current costs and scale back to earlier years by reference to the Retail Prices Index.
Current costs should be pretty easy to establish and scaling back is then just sums.
You should be able to do that yourself pretty easily but, depending on your relationship with your accountant, it could be cheaper to let the accountant do the sums in the first place rather than have the accountant check your workings and find an excuse or reason to make his own calculations anyway.
So, what are the current costs?
Have there been any changes in work patterns over the relevant years which resulted in changes to travelling arrangements?0 -

Thanks for that jimmo, i had been thinking the same given that i cant find any quotable sources for the fare rates of previous years.
We are submitting up to the current tax year so i have already put the current costs into the spreadsheet.
His travel arrangements havent changed, always bus/tube in and around london for just one employer.

The website you are looking for is wayback.archive.org. This is a great website which archives most websites. I've provided the link to it's archive of the TfL website below and you'll just need to choose the year and dates it was archived and hopefully it will have the information you need.
http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.tfl.gov.ukDid you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0
