How to reheat singapore fried rice safely

Hi, had a chinese takeway last night and was far too much to finish in one sitting, so I have half a plastic container of singapore fried rice that contains meat and prawns. How can I reheat it for tonight's tea SAFELY, I am going to do some plain chow mein and beansprouts to go with it as well. I don't want to waste it, but equally I do not want food poisoning. I let it cool and has been in fridge all night and all today.

CC limits £26000

Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Been in the fridge? It'll last for a couple of days. You can eat it cold or heat it to whatever temperature you want.

As far as I remember, it's not so much the reheating that causes a problem, as long as it's piping hot, it's the length of time it spends cooling before you get it in the fridge - it gives more time to those spores to grow if left unrefridgerated or warm for a while.

I quickly cool and reheat rice dishes all the time, and I've never had a problem.
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Something like that I would microwave it twice to be certain, otherwise bung it in a pan with a little bit of hot oil and heat it really well. It's probably ok after just 24 hrs in the fridge anyway.

I would remove the prawns & bin them. I wouldn't risk them.

This is what the NHS has to say on the subject :)

    http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/Can-reheating-rice-cause-food-poisoning.aspx?CategoryID=51&SubCategoryID=215

Unless you made it yourself, there is a good chance that your fried rice was cooked the previous day and left in fridge overnight, then fried up when you bought it.

I have reheated rice on many occasions with no problems, however, I know people who have done it and been really poorly. I don't do it any more - especially take away rice.

As for the prawns.... The advice above was downright dangerous. Picking the prawns out of something because you think they are not fit for eating will not remove the problem as the prawns will already have contaminated the rice!!!!!

    Hope that helps :)

As far as I am aware, microwaving does not kill the bacteria if it is already present in the cooked rice.

    Don't eat it.

Never reheat rice more than once. It will almost definitely already have been reheated to make the fried rice, so it needs to go in the bin.

I will eat anything that's out of date as long as it looks and smells ok, or if it's been dropped on the floor etc. But rice I am extremely wary of. The strain of food-poisoning-causing bacteria associated with rice is called bacillus cereus, and it's a particularly nasty one. Definitely not worth the risk.

    I'd never re-heat rice I hadn't cooked myself, it just isn't safe.
I would rather waste the couple of quids worth of food than spend a weekend on the bog, or worse.

    Don't do it.

Toxins in reheated rice make it potentially very dangerous. NHS advises against it - and when a fire safety officer gave the students at uni a safety talk in my son's first week at uni, he told them that if there was just ONE piece of advice he wanted them to take note of it was this. That certainly made an impression on my lad, given all the other things he could have said, to the extent that he has acted on it ever since!
