Work Focus Interview !!!

Hi

Posting for my brother...

He's disabled and gets IB, DLA (High Mobility, Medium Care), CTC.

His wife has been invited for a Work Focused Interview. Anyone know what this is and what they'll do?

She spends most of her time looking after my brother and their 2 kids (2 and 5 year old). And she's very worried about this interview...

The other problem is the timing and getting to the interview. I don't think she can make it as she's too busy looking after her husband and kids. So can the interview be held at their house?

Any experience or advise anyone?

Thanks

I think it's just a formailty, when i signed on to IS i had a work focused interview but because i have a child they cant force me to work, as far as the appointment goes she would have to speak to the jobcentre and explain her situation and see what they can do.

Yus is there a way that you could look after your brother for an hour or so so that your SIL can attend the interview ?

Yeah - i think i can do that.

We're gonna ring them and ask them to make a home visit if poss - if not then i'll look after him

    thanks
  • Hi Yus,

I know you are not asking this, but has your SIL/Brother put in a claim for Carers' Allowance? As your brother recieves medium care - he is entitled to it.

  • There really is no need to worry about the interview. They will tell her what support they can offer if she wants to look for work and, if she has a good adviser, ask what other benefits they may be entitled to (such as carer's allowance). They won't try to force her into anything. If she really is going to find it difficult to get to, phone the number on the letter and ask if the adviser would be willing to do a telephone interview. This interview is about what you can get from them NOT what they can get from you.
