Missed payment removals from credit file help.

Just listening to Martin on Radio 2 and it's jogged my memory to ask for help here.

Background
Had a hire purchase agreement with Welcome Finance in 2007 for 4 years. Sought to close my account by way of the voluntary termination clause in my contract after 2 years. Continued arguments from that point on 3 years, with 2 separate complaints issues to the FOS after Welcome Finance refused to honor a final offer they extended to me in December 2009.

Finally, in December 2011, Welcome Finance finally agreed to honor their offer and close my account and even refund me £9.96 of over payments than what I should have paid.

When I checked my credit file yesterday, they have indeed updated my credit file to show partially satisfied, but they have left on missed payment marks that should not be on there, as they occured after the date of the offer that they have completed.

I don't know the first thing about how I can go about getting them removed or how to word letter. (Not that Welcome Finance ever acknowledge letters anyway. They are the worlds worst communicators)

I have attached a copy of the entry on my file for your info, and maybe to better understand. I may not have explained properly.

Thanks for any help.

  • I am no expert as to HP.

As for them not responding to letters, send them a complaint, signed for, complaining that you do not believe that your credit file is an accurate reflection of account activity. Include the previous complaint ref numbers also for reference.

They can't ignore this, well they can, but if they do you can refer to the FOS after 8 weeks.

another option is if you feel they have not fulfilled a previous FOS complaint in full, or that the credit report status is linked to that, write to the FOS directly and tell them the problem with the previous case.

I don't know what credit reports should show for HP, but if you haven't broken the agreement, then yours looks far too red to me.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the reply happy_bunny.

I seem to remember there was somebody on these forums that had produced some template letters for this sort of issue, but I can't for the life of me find them anymore.

Anyone have any clues or links to where they may be?
