Help- how to apply for 2 vacancies with the same employer?

The employer has advertised 2 receptionist jobs on the same site, exactly the same job, one for 33 hours a week, one for 40 hours a week. I would prefer the 40 hour a week job but I could do the 33 hour one so I want to apply for them both to increase my odds. I think sending 2 separate applications would make it look like I hadn't realised it's the same job and employer just different hours.
How do I do this, should I:
Just send in my CV for the 40 hour week reception job and they'll naturally consider me for the other vacancy as well since it's essentially the same job?
Put in my cover letter that I would like to apply for both jobs?
Call and let them know I would like my application to be considered for both jobs?
Something I haven't thought of?
I know I'm overthinking but I really want this job! Thanks in advance for your help.

go for 40, if that suits you best! they may not have realised/canx the 33 one yet!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

are you applying directly or via an agency? If it is direct, does it mention the any names (eg hiring manager or HR person) and if it does are they the same or different?
Assuming they are truly identical and it isnt going to the same person then you could apply for both and mention in the covering letter that you have seem both roles and would like to be considered for both.0 -
At one point I advertised two similar jobs, and had some people who only applied for one or the other, and others who applied for both. While we did spot those who were on both lists, we considered both their applications in exactly the same way as we would if there was only one job available.
I'd personally put in two forms. If you put on a cover letter that you'd like to apply for both then it may be missed, or you may only be considered for one of them.0 -
Fill out 2 forms and attach a covering letter to each one that says that you have also applied for the other job - say you are explaining this so that they know that you are aware there are identical positions but with different hours.
Good luck!Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -
When I was applying for my current job there were 3 positions advertised (same position but different hours). I called up HR and explained that I would like to apply for all three but would ideally like the one with the most hours. I was told to mention that in my covering letter I would like to be considered for all three and to just send one app form.
I would call the employers to be on the safe side though. They will let you know if one or more app forms are needed.
Good luck!0 -
If you can contact them, then, be upfront with them from the start and say that you are interested in working for them as a receptionist - with jolly good reasons as to why you want to work there (bit of buttering up never fails!), and say that you are flexible with hours. That way, whatever happens, you've been upfront and honest with them - which goes a very long way.0

People expect receptionists to exercise a great deal of initiative. If they knew you had to ask this question on an internet forum, perhaps they might surmise that you were a little lacking in that department. No offence.0

There's no way they would find out since I didn't give out any identifying information about them or myself. I'm sure they're not the only employer advertising multiple receptionist vacancies and I'm not the only applicant called Sarah. As I said in the OP I am just nervous because I want this job so much and wanted to make sure I was applying correctly. So I asked for advice on the employment forum, if you're not here to give employment advice, why are you here? Just to pick on people? Most jobs require people skills and it looks like you're a little lacking in that department. No offence.0 -
I would say put in two applications as they probably have seperate reference numbers. Actually you are showing initiative by asking others opinions.

Hope it works out for you.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Good points! They do have seperate reference numbers. In the end I sent in another CV and cover letter for the other job and added the sentence "I have also applied for [Job No] because I am interested in the role and I can be flexible about my working hours."0
