I want: Air Conditioning

Hi,
Over the hot summer I swore I'd buy a decent air conditioner. I kept convincing myself that "it will be cooler tomorrow" though and never got around to it.
Are there any bargain air conditioners on sale now in the cold weather, before they charge full-price in the summer when everyone's clamouring for one?
Thanks.

Hey there!
please dont buy those cheap inefficient units from b&q or alike
Use a proper online retailer where the units are decent.
I used to work in a/c and ill tell you now the units u can buy from b&q are quite poor, noisy and cheap.
I bought my air con unit from:
http://www.koolbreeze.eclipse.co.uk/koolbreeze%20products.htm
The particular unit i got was
http://www.koolbreeze.eclipse.co.uk/kompact.htm
These units are 4.4kw, units from b&q are much lower or will claim to be of similar power but are not.
The unit i have is very professional and modern looking. 15,000 btu for the larger rooms, It also functions as a true heat pump providing 4kw of heat from 2kw of electric input... it doesnt use elements to heat the air so is very efficient.
Very impressed with it.
Another unit that i have in my house is a 12,000 btu, suitable for most average sized lounges. Provides 3 kilowatts of cooling by only putting 1.5kw of electric into it. This unit heats but uses an electric element but is a very good cooler.
These have come down in price loads now due to newer models out but its still one of the best, i paid £700 for mine u can buy online now for much cheaper.

So shop about online before u buy u will get much better quality! Any questions please ask me!If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Thanks alot! Am looking into it now. Will probably take you up on your offer of advice too!

it all depends on what size system you need, how far the pipes will be from the outside you unit things like that.
Smaller room sizes only require small equipment which is cheaper than the more expensive ones.
If your looking at fixed systems some good manufacturers are, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba & LG (although LG are entry level but still better than ya b&q units!)
Your probably looking at about £1000 including supplying of equipment and fitting for one room.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
what would you advice for a small bedroom?0

Well trez if you going to be using the unit on an evening while chilling out in your bedroom then go for a unit thats approx 12,000 btu minimum if its a portable unit. if its split system and is a fixed system then you can prob get away with a lower btu of say 10,000 btu as these units are more efficient and work a lot better.
If you want low noise go for a split system but if you wanting convenience of being able to cool the room before going to bed to lower temp and make more confortable then go for portable.
Cheapest is portable units but a reliable and effiecient system can be fitted for about £500 more.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
The power consumption of these units combined with the UK climate is never going to make them MSE friendly, or environment friendly IMO.Happy chappy0

Hi Richard,
hope you are around! I am pregnant and can't sleep with the heat, unfortunately with imminent arrival can only really afford to spend about £250, what would you suggest? We are in a rented house so will have to be portable.
Thank you in advance0
