Be honest and frank with your family. What ever has happened is water under the bridge. Assist where you are able but don't feel obligated to be dragged into the mire.

Our family doesnt talk, one big fall out....we all made an effort and got back on track - 3 years later in the same boat again. " trouble causers int he family and then everyone feels the need to take sides. Life is too short, its bad that theyre lying to you but it could be embarrassment, shame, head in the sand or whatever.

You sound like your the one whos sensible so you could do with printing this off, showing it them. Telling them you have spoken to NR and you know theyre obviously up a creek without a paddle. chances are their credit file is shot by now, but if not you might be able to help them sell their house, reduce the debt to something more manageable and maybe find a more affordable property.

Its your decision but nobody likes to see anyone suffer (apart from the odd person maybe), so if you can help get them back on their feet by being sensible it could be worth doing. short of dipping my hand in my pocket i would for most of my family - no matter whats happened in the past.
