  • If anyone has a 'Shelter' Charity shop in their town, they seem to be selling new end of stock make up.

I bought this for 49p! Great easy to use natural looking blush.

No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

  • Just wanted to recommend this hand cream. My DD works as an assistant chef, and is excema prone. This stuff is the is very soothing, moisterising and at 99p so affordable you can slap it on several times a day. I found it in Home Bargains. http://www.fragrancedirect.co.uk/kamill/kamill-sensitive-hand+nail-cream-100ml/invt/0045265?source=122_74&gclid=CKGAjPzilrkCFY7LtAod0jwAjA

Salt scrub - Fill a kilner jar with some <£1 coarse sea salt from Aldi then put baby oil in so that it covers the salt plus a bit. Hey presto, worlds greatest exfoliator.

I'd use a vegetable oil, preferably EVOO or grapeseed. Baby oil is only perfumed liquid paraffin (labelled as mineral oil) and isn't good for your skin. How they can dare to market it at babies is beyond me. For very MSE purposes a simple pressed vegetable oil, even sunflower would be preferable to mineral oil.
  • I agree Sofababe. It's quite incredible how many trusted brand names have liquid paraffin as their second or third ingredient. I first noticed this when I read due to DD's excema she should avoid exposure to it - I started checking things before buying - it is in everything! I myself am not sensitive to mineral oil but have noticed since I have been on the lookout not to buy anything with it in, my dry skin has improved greatly. My only regret is that I love the smell of baby oil and can find nothing else that smells like it!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Rubber gloves - the type doctors and nurses use, is briliant for rubbing fluff and pet hairs off clothes. Can get 5 pairs for a pound in our local pound shops.

  • Beauty guru Caroline Hirons recommends removing cleanser with ordinary face flannels & water. Cheap ones from Primark are fine, throw in the wash every day. Her other beauty recommendations are a lot more pricey though!!

Someone on MSE once suggested this using a microfibre cloth and hot water (bit like the muslin cloths and hot cloth cleansing). I've done that ever since and been pleased with the results, cheaper and more thorough than the face wipes.

I get a cheap tub of petroleum jelly from the supermarket (cheaper than the brand name Vaseline) and use for lip gloss, refilling a little pot with it when necessary. It has a nicer consistency on the lips than some of the sticky jammy feeling lip glosses you can buy, and a lovely natural shine.

I used to use Avene face products for problem skin till I did some research into facial clothes. I bought two microfibre face clothes and use pears soap now, and my skin has cleared up. The clothes were two for £1.49 with free delivery on ebay, and apparently very similar to the Enjo ones?? I dont know for sure though, never bought a Enjo one, too grippy :)
Also a fan of Astral cream, bit of a heavy smell, but very moisturising. Discovered aromaco solid deodorant as well recently from Lush, and it smells lovely and works.
Alberto balsalm shampoo for a pound, the new honey one is brilliant and the coconut and pomegranate smell fab!!
  • Toothpaste - Lidl own brand (dentalux?) is great, as is mouthwash and toothbrushes. All < £1.

I've just switched to the Timotei shampoo and conditioner which is paraben free - my hair is is great nick and both bought in Poundland.
