Creased Leather Coat

Options
Hiya

Whilst visiting my SIL over new year she gave me her old clothes to go through to have whatever I wanted. Apart from a few tops and jeans, I also got a lovely leather coat. But she was only getting rid of it because it was creased. The label says it can only be cleaned by leather professionals. So my question.....

How can I get the creases out of the coat. I was thinking, and did mention to her about trying before giving coat away, was to hang it up in bathroom and the steam might get rid of creases. But have since thought that may shrink it and I can only just fit it now! :p

Thank you :D

Buy some Dubbin at the local shoe shop & apply that,it'll soften the leather & enrich it as well as waterproof it.That should allow the creases to come out easier.

It should do,I used on a leather jacket that went stiff after getting damp.

dubbin is great - so is saddle soap and so is ordinary vaseline. it depends on how bad the creases are? personally I prefer a leather coat to look 'well used'. once leather has 'cracked' it will never look pristine. but it can look fantastic if its still well cared for.

When we brought my leather jacket in spain (was made to measure and cost the same as over here) they said to use normal moisturiser that you use on your body such as Nivea because leather is the skin!
Also they ironed the leather and thus you get the smooth brand new look. Although the manager said you could use a hot iron, and I saw the people there doing this, he said most probably best to do a cool iron until you get confident in doing this!
Good find in the bag - bet SIL will be well sick when she see you in it lol :rotfl: :rotfl:
