A little more info to clarify the situation. I'm a lone parent with an 18 yr old who leaves college next week. I have been receiving CTC/WTC and CSA payments but these will now stop. She works 8 hours a week at a local sports centre and is looking for a full-time job. I work full-time in an office. DD may occasionally pick up an extra shift or two a month but that's not guaranteed. I have the money available to pay off the credit card but as they are both at 0% I've left that in the bank. Car is S reg and needs replacing sometime soon - I have £2800 set aside for this.

I would be grateful if people could offer advice as to how I can cut back.

Thank you :D

Given how little your daughter will earn, you need to check whether you can get LHA and CTB. They will assumke that she is paying a certain amount unless you tell them otherwise.

    Go to www.turn2us.org.uk/

And cancel the satellite TV, you cannot afford it.

I am hoping there will be some kind of benefit I will be entitled to so I'll be checking that out next week. The £44 for TV is Virgin basic package with phone and broadband. Nothing swanky just the basics. I can't get any reception with Freeview (even with a booster for the arial) so if I want TV then I need Virgin. I've only just transferred Internet/Phone from Talk Talk as it was cheaper in a bundle with Virgin.

    Thanks RAS for your comments.

You can check which benefits you are entitled to by looking at this...
