Advice on sick leave
Comments
-
Where I work, a certain number of absences in a set period will automatically trigger a disicplinary (unless pregnancy related) but the purpose of the meeting is to look futher into the case to decide whether a warning is warranted. So at that point it would be management discretion, with HR advice.
If someone was in a situation such as yours where there was a one off serious illness, this may mean the manager chose not to issue a warning on that occassion as it may be considered mitigating circumstances. So dont' assume that just because you are invited to a disciplinary you will definitley be getting a warning, the meeting is your chance to state your case and you may well find that there is enough mitigation to prevent a warning being issued.
Just because you have a sick note, it certainly doesn't preclude a warning being issued, but if you outline the circumstances of the absence (one off serious illness requiring hospital treatment) then it may well not result in a warning.0
