Two jobs, one company, one very nervous candidate!!

I want some advice. This is quite complex so bear with me.

I am currently employed with this company via an agency. The contract is due to expire in the middle of February. There is an opening for my current role on a 12 month contract coming up and I am being interviewed for it next week. It is no big secret that they have more or less decided that they are going to choose me for it.

Now, about two weeks before I started in this temp role, I interviewed with a different manager for a different job in the same company. She really liked me, but the role I interviewed for fell through and opened up to a better paid more senior role which they wanted me for. This then also fell through, but the manager at the time said it would be coming up in the new year and she was VERY keen for me to apply as she really liked me as a candidate.

So, that has now come up. I have applied for it. There are two of the same position but in different locations, and one is very close to home. It is very well paid, and it would be a lovely career path to progress into. The long and short is, I REALLY want it, and my chances look promising.

The closing date is not until the 20th, and the interview is on the 2nd Feb. If I get the job I am interviewing for on the 19th, I will have already started it when I get interviewed for the one I really want.

I can't turn down a job offer on the basis of another job that I may or may not get, but I feel like I am doing them an injustice by taking one role, and then leaving a fortnight later to start in another one.

Obviously HR know what is going on. My current agency know the company really well and have told me not to worry about it, but to be upfront and clear about my intentions. I still can't help but be nervous. I don't want to hinder my chances of either role, especially the second one, and I don't want to mess anyone around.
Has anyone got any advice?

Many thanks in advance!!

  • Do not assume anything and go for both with exuberance and energy. If you get an offer take it - and if there is a second offer, then make the decision. If asked, tell each manager that both jobs sound fabulous and just what you are looking for; but you could not choose between them unless two offers were on the table.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
