in Cutting tax
Hi i have been working for a small company for a while now i get paid monthly via check, i use the company lorry, they pay for petrol, maintenece of the lorries etc and i get paid for how many delveries i get told to do and the distance i travel, i get told a start time and which jobs to complete in which order. I have done the gov employment status helper and it comes out to say i am an employee but i'm not paying tax what should i do? should i complete a self assesment tax form or not??? because technically i'm not self-employed. i'm really confussed my wife cant claim financial aid for Open University as they say they need the record of self assesment tax forms or an account letter but i have neither.
Please please help

What does your contract with the small company say? Is it an employment contract?
When did you start doing work for them?0 -
yeh its an employment contract...
i started in sept0 -
Then you are correct - technically you are not self-employed, you are an employee and your employer is legally required to withhold tax and NIC from you and provide you with a payslip each month.
These payslips should be sufficient to provide as evidence of your income in order to claim financial aid.0 -
Thats what i thought...not to sure how to discuss this with my employer but i'm goin to have to as we are loosing out
thank you for replying0 -
What were you doing prior Sept? If you were employed did you give a P45 to the Sept employer? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
