What to do when your tariff doesn't appear on comparison sites?

I've been having a look at price comparison sites to see if I need to switch my electricity. I do this every now and then. My old tariff used to appear on the comparison sites, but it ended and it doesn't appear anymore. It was an old EDF online saver, this tariff used to appear with the correct day and night rates etc on all comparison sites, so comparing was a doddle.

Now EDF have moved me on some supposedly standard E7 tariff, but it doesn't appear on any comparison sites! When I select a tariff that looks right (a standard E7 one), and then double check the details, the rates the sites use that they think I'm paying now are actually wrong. So god knows what tariff EDF have put me on! (The rates the sites use are actually higher than what I'm paying.)

Are there any price comparison sites where you can enter your own tariff details, rather than selecting from a list? I'm terrible at maths and don't think I could work it out without a site doing it for me, but that's not going to happen if none of the sites have my tariff on!

You don't need your own tariff. Enter any tariff, put in your annual kWh figures, find the cheapest, divide that by 12 and that'll be what your new monthly DD is.
Compare that to your current monthly DD or forward projection for the next 12m as given on your recent bills.
Al current EDF tariffs should be on the comp sites-there is only one EDF standard tariff, you then select E7 as an option and enter your percentage split.

  • phone EDF and use your annual consumption figures rather than monthly DD , as its more accurate (but ofc select pay by monthly DD in the how to pay option)

and just select EDF Standard (with the tick box for E7) in any comparison site/

I had quite a bit of bother getting my annual consumption figures on the phone from EDF. They have changed their computer systems recently (I was told) and my account no has changed. They seemed to find it impossible to generate the annual consumption figure from my defunct account no.
Maybe no-one entered that data into the system when it was switched over?

I am going to ring again until I get the info as believe that we are all entitled to an annual consumption statement (did they not send you one? I lost mine...) Hope you get yours sorted too.

Suggest you post your tariff and rates from the latest bill then. Post 2 still applies.

Those don't look correct (for gas) if you have gas CH and DHW. Gas should be about 3 times higher.

  • we hardly use our gas , its been really low for 3 years now
  • whats ypur percentage split , of useage, between day and night rate?
  • Assuming all electric.

    - everyone out all day every day 30/70%
    - pensioner always at home all day every day a minimum of 50/50%

All other calcs somewhere in between, example 2 baths per night every night will move the 'Everyone out all day every day' to nearer that of a pensioner.

Quite simple to compare if you have your annual usage. Just work out your usage with the current units rates you have. If that comes to less than the total quoted on the comparison then that's cheaper, if not then stay where you are.
