There are two versions of the 1.6 diesel, one producing 89bhp and the other 113bhp so you will need to find out which version they are. A saving of only £500 for the high mileage one is not much, given the mileage is virtually double that of the second example you have listed.

They should both be covered by the manufacturers seven year warranty.

The price of the lower mileage one is about £1000 lower than an approved used Ce'ed on the Kia website, which has a mileage of 45000.

The C'eed diesel engine is particulary refined. More so than just about anything in its class, certainly on-par with BMW diesels.
The car seems well put together and goes round corners like its on rails, so full marks for handling.
The engines come in 2 BHP outputs; 92 (I think) and 113. The performance is good on the 1.6 CRDi 113, Ive never driven the lower BHP model. The adverts you link to, dont say what BHP the engine is.
The GS trim, is a lower spec than the LS trim, which has part-leather seats and probably more stuff I cant remember.
Those prices look cheap to me, though the mileage is high for the age (60k and 118K). As you probably know these cars come with a 7yr warranty (or 100K miles after 3 years , I think). Check that the service history is by Kia. If not you wont be able to claim on the warranty (unless Kia parts were used and the service was perfomed to Kia spec and the garage was VAT registered).

Just to add, before anyone starts to scare you about DPFs blocking up and DMFs failing (a favorite pastime on this board) the Kia diesels of that age have neither.

The cars linked above are the 89bhp versions.

I thought the 7 year warranty was only introduced on new cars registered in 2010 and after?

The Ce'ed has had the 7 year warranty sinced its introduction. It was extended to other models in the Kia range in 2010.

Excellent! I didnt realise! Well this looks like a good deal then. Good cheaper replacement for our 2009 Ford Focus 1.6 auto that is costing us too much.

    Sound reasonable?

On a slightly different note -anyone know why an insurance quote would be so high on it?

I priced it on comparethemarket using my wife (26yo 3yrs NCB) as main driver and me (28yo 6yrs NCB) as named because I am using my NCB on our other (newer) car that I use for my journey to work. It came up as £650. Seems very high as this is higher than our premium on the 2009 Focus!

Ask the dealer for a body panel and see if they quote months or years for a replacement.

Sorry I didn't understand what this was in response to?
  • We have a 2008 1.6 diesel LS higher BHP version. Nice to drive, engine is punchy enough. More torque than previous 1.8 Focus.

Only thing to note is that we only get 50mpg max. And that is based on 30min plus journeys on A roads and duel carriageway. Even on long runs 4 hours+ we have never bettered 52mpg.

Out of the 2 the one with lower mileage and warranty is the one to choose. Check service history is either Kia or has proof of genuine Kia parts being used to make sure the warranty is valid.

    Thanks for this.

Is there anyone else out there who can support this point about the lower mpg?

father has the 1.6 ls 16v petrol, does about 44-48 on short 30min trips motorway trips you get to about 58-62 mpg.

the price being so high for insurance have you hunted around for cheaper quotes so you can haggle with your current insurer.

cheapest option with your current insurer is to pay the £15-20 admin fee for change of details and then pay the extra a month so your not paying deposit etc for opting to go else where.

the KIA is usually a cheap car to insure, i can insure any model and engine for about £700 mark 1yrs ncb 28yrs old with co-op insurance, check your area's high risk status this may be a result of your increase if so put a named driver on that is experience like your father mother sister friend uncle aunti etc that should budge it down a little.
