Hi All,
Strange question this, my mum's not worked sine the 70's  when my Bro and me were born,
she stayed at home to look after my Bro and me :grouphug: so she's not paid tax or climed any benefit's, father was working.
Now father has passed on, what's the situation about paying tax on saving's etc?
dose she need a tax code?
Many thanks.

If she has other than a state pension then she should get one to give to the second pension provider.0

Hi Jennifer thanks for the quick reply. :T
I'm not entirely sure which/what she get's, i've just spoken to her :wall: and she said she get's state (over 60's) and widows pension (she dont think it's called this anymore) and she also get's some money from my dad's work pension i believe? which they tax she said. Would that be ok my dad's tax code?
I hate tax
Thanks again.0 -
Usually when a person starts to receive a widow's pension, (part of dad's work pension), they get a P46 form to complete.
Has mum had anything from the works pension department.
If not, then she may be as well phoning her local tax office, if you are there, she can authorise the tax people to talk to you.
Before you ring, make sure you have full details of what she is getting from everywhere and her National Insurance number.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Good advice, the local tax offices are usually very helpful.
Basically, state pensions are paid gross, so if she gets any other pension that takes her over the single persons allowance then all the tax will come off that, so the pension provider needs a tax code to use as they will not know how much other income your Mum has. There is also (if G Brown has not stopped it) a special allowance for widows in the first year, so she needs to ask about this too.
If she has any bank interest she will probably need to de-register for gross interest.0
