Partner moving in (later in year)

Hi All

My partner is possibly moving in later this year to my house. It's probably an obvious question, but how do I reflect this on my SOA? As I will have to notify the OR and revisit my I&E.

Do I show his income and his proposed contribution towards the household bills, it's always been a grey area for me.

Thanks.

  • When is your year up?

Lots of people get early discharge.

I can't see you would need to tell the OR anything after that.

It's up in September this year. I was under the impression that any changes should be notified to the OR within 28 days regardless of what stage you are at with your BR.

They don't do early discharge at the office I'm with, typically :-)

Hi Lala, total your salaries and work out what percentage of the total his salary is. Then the income you show on the I&E is that percentage of the total joint expenditure. So...

If salaries are yours £1300 pcm, his £1500 pcm then his percentage is 53.574%
If total joint expenditure is £1200 pcm then his income contribution is 53.574% of that = £643

Not making any assumptions that he earns more than you, just plucked figures out of the air to show the calculation.

Thanks Inan. How do you work that out, as a formula? I'm having a mind freeze lol.

I always forget so sit with a calculator. With those figures I started at £2800 + 60% and worked down till it got close, 53% was too much, 53% was just under, so then went 53.5% and so on, pml. :o

But you can cheat by using an online percentage calculator. :D Use the second line, put his salary in the first box and the total in the second box. Gives an accurate percentage to many more decimal places than my figure.

Thanks again, it works out his salary is 47% of the total. So all my bills now show as joint and also include his bills, like car finance/insurance etc?

Is there a form we can fill in on here somewhere that works it all out for you? I recall seeing something official looking.

You don't include his personal expenditure on your SOA. It's joint bills and your personal ones only hun.

The SOA form we use doesn't actually work it out for you, but it's here if you need it.

So, let me get this clear lol, you just add in 47% of his wage to the income bit and then 47% contribution towards bill etc that we share? Sorry for all the questions. It's a simple thing but have a mental block about it for some strange reason.
