Hi, new laptop Asus/win7 HP.....but will not "Autoplay" DVDs or Cds, yes I have the ticked box "Always use autoplay" and "Ask me first", and it works on SD card and memory stick, but not on DVD/CD.
Even if I go manually to "computer" which then shows the DVD, their dosent seem any easy way to "Download to my comp" or View Pictures, etc.?

Try here, the link in post 2 goes to a page for Vista but the settings and locations should be the same. You may want to back up the registry first

A lot of anti virus programmes switch autorun off now
" In order to help prevent malware from spreading (such as Conficker) using the AutoRun mechanism, the Windows 7 engineering team made two important changes to the product: "

In particular, Windows will no longer display the AutoRun task in the AutoPlay dialog for devices that are not removable optical media (CD/DVD.) because there is no way to identify the origin of these entries. Was it put there by the IHV, a person, or a piece of malware? Removing this AutoRun task will block the current propagation method abused by malware and help customers stay protected. People will still be able to access all of the other AutoPlay tasks that are installed on their computer.0 -

Make a back up of the registry just in case
Enabling AutoPlay in Windows
Note: Performing the below steps will require that you edit the system registry. Make sure you are aware of the issues that could occur if the incorrect registry entry is made.- Click Start, Run, type regedit and press enter.
- In the Registry Editor open the below registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
System\
CurrentControlSet\
Services\
Cdrom\ - When in the Cdrom folder change the Autorun from a '0' to a '1'
- Close the Registry Editor.

Three ways here, all reasonably quick so doing all three won't take long
