as for the adaptor - i blagged one of these for tnowt and to be honest it "does the job" but if you are in a bad or poor reception area then forget it.

If you decide it's not for you I could be interested in taking it off your hands.

DAB quality varies a lot depending on reception. I have line of sight to a transmitter about 1Km away and aside from 100% strength the quality is very good - better than FM.

OTOH if like me you are interested in BBC stations mainly then it is true that the same stations on Freeview are broadcast at a better bitrates so the answer is really to take a feed out of your Freeview STB to your hi-fi. If you're listening on a small portable I doubt you'd notice the difference.

I used to record 5-6 hours a day to transfer to a MP3 player but since changing to a Mac that's not possible unfortunately.

Hmm I am still gonna keep it for my dining room. When I say it is not very good I am comparing this to my Pure Evoke - which you can get refurb from Currys for £40.

You can only read the display up close and does not switch off completely. The wee sh1tty arial is well sh1tty.

However my local Curys had about 30 of them advertised at £14.97

The aerial can be easily fixed by replacing it with a better one.

I thought I read on this forum, that Currys were selling off the Matsui DAB adapter for £14.97. I searched and can't find it so I must have read it somewhere else.

Our Local branch (Stafford) still had dozens yesterday afternoon, not surprising as the shelf edge label said 39.95. Scanned at £14.97 though.

It only has a wire for an antenna and the performance suffers, but at that price I'm going to modify it to add a proper antenna connector by replacing the wire witha bit of coax.

Unit has an infra red remote, and seems to work well, when plugged into our hi-fi amp.
  • You did read it on here. In fact, there is already a thread on this in the 'Quick! Grabbit while you can' section and also one in the 'Shop but don't drop' section:

Well either my brain or my PC was having a bad day yesterday. I looked in Quick Grabbit and couldn't see it, so searched on Matsui, and DAB. Found nothing!!!

Thanks to whoever merged the threads for tidying up.
