Hello, i thought i would start a diary....
My partner and I have been in rented accommodation most of our lives and for reasons beyond our control are having to move again in 2 weeks!
We looked at rentals in the local area but found what we were looking for was usually in a rough area or over priced! We've had some bad experiences renting, and I am so so tired of paying money to the liars and thieves we have encountered that call themselves landlords!
We have decided to move in with OH's family to add to our savings and save for a deposit. So this is what my diary is going to be about. If we continue to rent we won't be able to save any more and what we do have will be frittered away. My OH has about £2,500 (at 0%) on a credit card and I have £200 (at 0%) owing to a catalogue. We have some savings, I need to go away and work out what % of our deposit we have already, I will update with that at a later stage.
Wish me luck, i'm off to start packing and dejunking!

Well not much has changed since my initial post, we are currently in the process of packing up and moving everything across to our new home! I am trying to dejunk as much as possible and have 3 bags of clothes for the charity shop and 2 bags of shredded paper for the local animal rescue centre (they use it as bedding for small animals). I've found a few of my brother's DVD's and a vase of my mum's so i'm going to take them back this afternoon!!!
We haven't set an official moving day for when we need the van, depends when we're ready for it really! My back has been playing up a bit so i'm not really relishing the task ahead!0 -
We've moved a few car loads of stuff over this week so we haven't got too much left for the big move day next week! I've got a bit more packing to do over the weekend but it's mainly kitchen things, furniture and clothes left now.
They say moving house is stressful, i'm feeling it at the moment. My anxiety levels are high and i'm a bit short tempered:o I'll be ok hopefully once we move and get settled in!

Well we moved house yesterday and handed the keys back to the landlord. It feels very strange being here, surrounded by boxes, but we're cosy and happy so far! The numbers in our bank account are looking healthier already :rotfl:We've agreed we will get monthly balances to spur us on.
So far so good0 -
After a few unsettled days today is the first day where i'm really starting to relax and can potter around and do what i need to do without worry. At first i was worried about leaving a plate unwashed or using all the hot water.
I've done a rough calculation and i think we've got a 12% deposit at the moment. We're aiming for 20% plus fees.
I've been trying to avoid buying all the little things that add up, a drink here a book there and am really trying to think before i buy.
We've still got a few boxes to unpack, think we'll try and get those emptied or stored away this week when OH is off workx

I've been trying to think of where I should be focusing my energy, if that makes sense.
1. not spending any money unless it is necessary
2. studying hard so that I can pass my exams and get a new job and add to the deposit fund
3. pay off my catalogue debt asap
4. lose some weight
5. try and stop worrying so much about the small stuff
In the evenings when my OH is at work I am either studying or, more recently, going to the gym. I don't think I can do any more than that at the moment.
Sorry, this post is more me thinking out loud...0 -
I thought it was about time for an update!
I've paid £150 off my catalogue so only owe £50, which i can pay off next month. We've saved £800 in rent we would have paid and the savings account is looking healthier.
I sometimes struggle living with the in laws, MIL likes to give her opinion on whatever we're doing and always seems to have a 'better idea' of what we could be doing  Some days it irritates me and i question what we're doing here but other days it washes over me.
We're being very careful with the pennies and trying not to spend where possible.
I'm trying to get fit at the moment as well. I lost 3lb last week so i'll be made up if i can lose 1-2lb again this week  I'm going out for a walk every night so i hope this is helping.

Good luck with your plan and staying with the inlaws ... We did that ourselves years ago, could never do it again *shudders* ... But it will deff be a good incentive to get saving fast ... Just try not to rush out and buy the first place u see when u have had enough
Good luck0
