Crb check

I am considering applying for a few jobs which require a CRB check adverts have stated that employer to meet the cost, does this mean i have to apply for the check and then claim the expense of the check from the employer if employed to do the job.

Sorry for seeming thick here but never had to do one and don't really know how they work it.

Thanks in advance

  • Any I've had done have been done by the employer, I don't think you can have one done yourself... So they may just be saying that you'll be CRB checked and it won't cost you anything.

You can apply for a CRB yourself.

It is different for every employer. I applied for my own CRB for my dissertation project (I was studying children) and I paid for it myself with my uni reimbursing me.

Job wise I have had employers who make me fill it all out and send it off myself at my expense but then I have also had other employers who pay for it all upfront, my most recent employer has done so.

It seems that the bigger the employer the more likely they will meet the cost up front as they have a personnel department that can process all the forms.

I was offered a job a few months ago and they wanted me to do my own form and they said I would be reimbursed after three months work. I wasn't happy to do this. It was advertised as a temporary position so I wasn't expecting to be there that long!

    Hello

I am now working in a school as a teaching assistant and the school arranged for the CRB check for me. It took about 6 weeks and I am not sure if that is normal but obviously 6 weeks was ages as I was not allowed to be in the school until it was done.

The school paid it for me.

Six weeks is about average for a crb. I have had one take four weeks but that was the fastest I have ever had one done.
