A Belated Happy New Year to everyone, Good Luck to those Starting out & WTG to those soldiering on.
Its been a weird Christmas for us, didnt really feel like Cwhristmas. we didnt spend over our budget, and the children didnt go without.
Our review went well, and weve managed to up our repayments for a 4th year in a row. The hit of no Child Allowance has been noticeable too this month, and were going to have to re-work our food budget as January has seen us dip into our "emergency fund for both food and running the car"
One surprise for Christmas though was the sale of a number of old jewelry items to a reputable gold dealer who have us a very good price. (We kept the diamonds for the children), and managed to pay off the "family" debt that is not on the DMP,LBM - Oct - 08 DMP Started - Feb -09

Hi All,
I have spoken to Halifax and they have said they have charged me for an unauthorised overdraft because our 6 month agreement has finished and they haven't received updated statements from SC. My fault as I let things slip a bit with the stress of my job situation at the moment. SC are sending them the info and then I am going to see if they will reimburse the charges and if not I will then put a complaint in writing as HH said.
Plus I have good news on the job front. I was offered the second job I went for which I have accepted. It is a bit more money as well so that should cover my extra travel costs. Hugh sigh of relief:j:jDMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Thanks. I know it is good news on the job front but I am so sad that I have to leave where I am now and start again. I had hoped to stay if we could have got the funding to carry on, but nothing has come up yet and I can't take the risk of letting these jobs go on the offchance some money might come in from elsewhere. Even if funding was given I have no idea how much it would be, so the job may be part time and for a lot less money. My partner was getting very anxious about it all as well because it would affect our DMP and seriously set back our DFD. It is a horrible situation to be put in but I am lucky to have another job so must stop feeling sorry for myself and get on with it.:oDMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Hi all.
I was hoping for some advice. I have just got in touch with Stepchange for my partner to do a dmp. I put all of his creditors on the list for them but he now wants to take one of his credit cards off the dmp list, will stepchange allow this?
He is with Halifax for his bank and has an overdraft and a loan with them that I put on the dmp list, he wants to keep his bank account with Halifax and says he doesnt want to open another account with another bank, how will this effect his dmp?
Thanks0 -

Hi
Is he removing the credit card as he wants to continue to use it or as a safety net. Either way I don't think Stepchange will allow him to do so as it will be seen as still using credit. If he is removing the card as a safety net I would suggest asking Stepchange to put your first DMP payment back a month or two, meaning that you will make a token payment of say £1 to each creditor for a month or two, allowing you to save an emergency fund.
Regarding keeping his current bank account, its a very bad idea that nobody will recommend. The reason for this is that as he is including his current bank into the DMP then they have every right to totally empty his account to pay back what he owes to his overdraft and loan. Its much safer to open a new account and not much hassle at all.
Good luck with it all, it gets easier as time passes.0 -

Hi Becky and welcome :hello:
What your partner is suggesting can't be done with a managed DMP. StepChange will insist on including all debts in a DMP and the Halifax CC, loan and the overdraft will both need to be included.
If your partner keeps his current account and Halifax are informed he is on a DMP, they are able to use any money in that account to offset against his CC and his loan and may also withdraw the overdraft facility.
If he insists on doing this, the only way to go would be for him to make his own arrangements with his other creditors to pay but again, they may question why he is not including the Halifax debts in this arrangement.
He really would be better opening a new basic bank account and including all debt in the DMP.LBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

They could withdraw his overdraft facilty and reduce his credit limit on card - but they can't tkae his money just because he is managing debts with other creditors as long as the ones with the halifax are up to date.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
Hi All.
Haven't posted for a while but reading everyday. It is really nice to see the newbies being offered so much support, I know it was this thread which allowed me to come to terms with my situation and deal with it.
Anyway plodding along with a real possibility of cracking it this year but if not certainly next year.
Main reason for the post was to just pass on some info for anyone who has debts with Cabot. I requested a full and final last year and was told they would never give one to someone with such a low balance and when I was told the same again later in the year I just decided to carry on paying my monthly payment.
Well I then got a call yesterday from them (I always return calls from creditors after the advice here made me strong enough to do it) saying they would be able to reduce my payments by a month if I could pay over the next three months. I know it's not much of a reduction but at least it's something and means I will have cleared in three rather than the six I had planned.
I can only presume that they are trying to get some small debts shifted from their books for year end!!!!
May be useful for anyone who is with them and has a lowish debt to see if they can get any reduction.
As you may gather I am now self managing my DMP and clearing the remainder in the usual snowball fashion.
Keep smiling old and new alike and use this place for support as there really are so many nice people here.
Take care
