DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 8

Thanks Growurown. I have been checking and reading the boards every day. It's helping to keep me positive.
DH has just asked if there is any pocket money for him in the budget. I told him no and it would have to come out of the food budget if he wants to buy a coffee or sandwich at work occasionally. I don't think he's too happy about it but I'm sure after a few months we will find a bit spare in other budget sections for the odd treat, if we are thrifty.0 -

Just thought I'd share something I noticed for the first time on a letters from Barclays today. In among their usual irrelevant drivvel is the following paragraph:
"If you are experiencing financial difficulties you need to arrange an Income and Expenditure Report from an independent third party...CAB, CCCS or a Debt Management Company of your choice, together with a revised offer of payment.
Once we receive these details we'll be happy to review your offer. Please note we can only accept reduced payment plans for customers in financial difficulties through a debt management company"
So, they seem to be saying that unless you go through some robbing git of a company, or a recognised independent third party organisation - CAB/ CCCS, they won't play ball on reduced payment plans.
I've never seen that statement in their letters before. It's crap. And it will push more people into panic mode and into the hands of the unscrupulous fee-charging companies.

Well Barclays are really endearing themselves to their customers aren't they? After their disgraceful behaviour recently over the interest rates I heard today that Diamond could be up for a payment of 17 million. How disgusting is that:mad:DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Haven't posted in here for a while - just marking my place so I can have a catch up over the next couple of days.
I've been on a DMP for 10 months but had to rejig things back in Jan which set all the creditors into aggressive mode. Most are calming down now but a couple are still putting on the pressure and claiming they haven't received correspondence from CCCS <sigh>
Also just received a flurry of defaults which is really annoying - I thought I would get these at the beginning i.e. last year, but no - I really hope this is the last of them.
This now means 6 years from now of not being able to get a mortgage doesn't it?
After 6 years (so 2018), does this mean my file will be clean again?
(question purely hypothetical as I will still be on my DMP by then anyway)Proud to be dealing with my debts :j Total Unsecured Debt: [STRIKE]£47,157[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]now £42,010[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]now £39,943[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]now £36674[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]now £34434[/STRIKE] [STRIKE] £9766 getting there slowly :j0 -

Sorry to sound thick but I am not clear what you are going to be doing differently to CCCS?

Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear, did I?
My husband works in Sales so gets commission each month, sometimes a bit more than others. Going alone gives us the freedom to over pay certain creditors. All but one of our creditors has stopped interest, so we're hoping to plough as much money as possible in to this one first.
Obviously any spare cash that we would have given to CCCS would have been split out equally between the creditors so we would end up paying interest on that debt for a much longer time. Hopefully we can clear it a lot quicker this way and save ourselves money in the long run.

Thanks E
I guess what I was confused about is that some people stick with CCCS but still overpay 1 creditor themselves (eg the creditor gets two payment amounts in one month).
What stage did you go self managed? Did they all just accept it?

The CCCS told us we could no longer continue with them if we started to over pay one creditor as it's against their policy of treating them all fairly.
This will be our second month now of paying them direct and they've all been absolutely great, with no issues whatsoever. We called all creditors direct when we decided to go alone, and then requested everything in writing and they wer all brilliant. We've agreed a minimum payment with them all but will obviously over pay as and when we can.

Well done emmiloam :T
I freely admit that we overpay interest charging creditors while on a CCCS DMP and CCCS must know we do it because we change the balances online. They actually told SAAC that it was ok to do this, I can't find her post to reference this but hopefully she will come along and confirm this. I have also checked our DMP arrangement and there is no mention of this not being allowed.
Did you tell CCCS you were intending to do it? Maybe if they realise we are, it will be the push we need to go it alone :think:LBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

CCCS has written to all our companies now but none of them are saying they have had any contact. Barclaycard rang on Friday night and have now stopped interest on all cards for the next 30 days, they have also written to us stating this. Just waiting on NatWest to acknowledge our letters and the CCCS contact. Its taken a lot of pressure off just knowing that you have a bit of back up in the form of CCCS, I really wish we had done this a long time ago!Debts as of June 2012 - £68,986.35Now £27,470.20 :T57% of debts cleared:beer:0

Am really glad to hear it's all falling into place :T
Don't stress too much if you don't hear from creditors accepting the DMP, some of ours have never contacted us since it started but the payments all show up on the statements, which is the important thingLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin
