    Debt-free and Proud!
Good advice Growurown - I've spent this evening sorting my paperwork out for CCCS - letters to creditors, gathering statements etc.

Thankfully the bank details from the co-op have finally arrived so now I can start moving DD's and salary over.

The no credit to fall back on part is still making me feel uneasy - but the other option is worse and thats being in a even worse situation in 6 months time.

I'm trying to focus on the day I'm debt free!!:T

Yes I am looking forward to that day as well!

Not having access to credit hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought. When we had a large bill to pay on the car we just reduced our payment for a month, although some of our creditors complained that we had broken our agreement.

In many ways it has actually made life easier. There are less arguments between me and OH for a start. The attitude used to be that we both earn an OK wage so I will buy what I want, when I want and if I don't have the money I will use the CC. Well that door has closed now and it is a relief to know that finally my debt is coming down, no new debt is being built up and no more rows about spending what we didn't have.

  • Good advice - from what I've read on here it seems that the stress of doing the monthly creditor juggle disappears so I'm looking forward to that!

It will be a new way of life to not rely on the CC in my purse to help me whenever I want a treat. I've always told myself that I'm just rubbish with money - this year that will change!!

I'm waiting to hear back from CCCS and my creditors sent all my paperwork off on Wednesday it's a bit of a nervous time! Gonna be a big change for me as well not relying on the credit card and actually saving for things for the first time in years. Will keep you all posted when I start to hear from creditors :)

Hello Everyone, I posted a couple of weeks ago that the company that I worked for was going into liquidation and I was in a bit of a panic about how we would manage as I'm the main wage earner... well, I've got a job!:) Start on Monday and it pays more which is good news.

I've had to borrow April's salary from my parents but I should get back what I'm owed by the company (or most of it) via a governemt scheme so onwards and upwards (probably aged 10 years though in the last couple of weeks)

Just checking in- this month has been a long one and we've spent more than we should have, though none of it was avoidable. Payday today and things firmly in check for May!

Checked my credit report earlier (before closing the account before I got charged!) and saw that Barclays has defaulted me for my overdraft (one of our 4 creditors on our DMP with CCCS). Not surprised, and glad they've done it sooner rather than wait a few years!

Strange thing is that I haven't heard from them at all since January- no calls or letters, I am thinking now that when we moved the redirect we put in place isn't picking up the Barclays letters? I assumed they'd tell me they defaulted me at least! Going to ring old landlord and see if there's a pile of not nice letters sitting there for me. :)

Our oldest found out which primary school she's going to in September- now the fun of uniform buying begins!! Anyone with children know if/when there are good sales at the supermarkets? I'll put aside some each month from our clothes fund until there's a sale, or should I just get a few bits each month starting now? Thankfully nothing needs a logo apart from the sweatshirt!
  • Hi,

I'm in a huge mess with a former landlord (who is now a creditor)and I really don't know what to do. RIght now I'm feeling scared about leaving my home in case I see him again in the street because of what happened the last few times I saw him in public places.

I was renting a property from him and fell into arrears because my work circumstances changed. He was always difficult and never agreed to sit down and work out a payment plan or anything. He obtained a CCJ against me and I have made several offers of repayment to him but he has refused them all. I have offered much more than I can realistically afford.

The scary thing is that with all whats happening now, I don't actually think that it is about the money for him anymore. He was to do as much damage to me as he can. He has become a really unstable character.

Even before I started to have problems paying rent he would telephone and visit late at night occasionally and I would just not let him in. He then had a personal crisis a few months ago and he just seems to have lost the plot since then. He has stopped and shouted at me in the street, come right in my face and threatened me, he has shouted to strangers in the street telling them that i owe him money. He has been to my former employers office and showed them the CCJ confirmation. He has been to a school at which I am taking a part time course and given them a copy of the CCJ. He has also contacted many other people I know in my local neighbourhood telling them that I am a thief and that I have stolen rent money from him. He has used very emotive language and is basically telling anyone and everyone he can that i am a criminal because I have rent arrears.

The other day I saw him following me in his car so ran into a nearby restaurant to get away from him. He ran into the restaurant after me and created a scene with the manager in that restaurant who had asked him to leave. Even after being asked to leave he kept trying to re-enter the restaurant. He told the manager I was a criminal and a thief. This happened around a couple other restaurants in the same street where I fled in fear from him just to try and get away from him. I didn't know what he was going to do, if he was going to get violent or just really shout and make a humiliating scene.

I just feel completely wrecked and have no idea where to turn or what to do. I don't know what this man will do next. I get frequent menacing texts from him sometimes containing lies about people I know contacting him and helping him etc and just other really personal, nasty remarks, about my appearance etc.

He seems to want to do whatever he can to scare and humiliate me and its working. I am so scared that he will find out where I live and will never leave me alone and will tell all my neighbours etc.

Can this man continue to do this? Will anybody help me? Would the police be at all interested in helping me or would they just not bother and side with him because I owe him money? Can I get some sort of restraining order/injunction against this man or does the fact that I owe him money mean I can't really do anything to stop him?

    Hi johnny324
What an awful situation to be in. I think your ex landlord may have a mental health issue here, however that is not an excuse for his terrible behaviour. I would go to the police. Keep all the texts as evidence and staff in the restaurant are witnesses as well. Keep a diary of dates and times and details of any incidents with him too. A restraining order could be the way to go but the police would be best people to talk to here. They wouldn't side with him because you owe him money. Owing money does not give him permission to hound you in this way. His behaviour is totally out of order.

Absolutely agree. This is harassment, pure and simple. Harassment is unlawful and you should go the the police immediately.

Johnny324 defiantly get in contact with the police. As said above keep everything as evidence. He is threatening you and he has no right to do that. Remember debt is not a crime where as stalking and harassment is a crime.
