Courier-ing Route Planner help?

Hi All

I am about to start work for a courier part time, Im providing cover until a permenant role appears- which means I will not know the areas Im delivering to at all!

The systems give it to you in an order of postcode- but no order within that so apparently I can expect it to take hours longer as I will be going back and forth!!! Obviously this is not economical on my vechicle/ costs or my time!

I have been searching the web for a system- Preferably an app for my mobile but it would be fine on a comp system if theres nothing else available. I have seen a similar thread from 2008, but it doesnt really help, the following are mentioned:

Microsoft Autoroute- is an MS system- I have a mac! Could always borrow a comp but really hoping that an app exists! If not I may have a business idea! lol.

AND route planner- was mentioned in the previous thread but I cant find it anywhere!

Can anyone help me!!! Thanks

Sophie

buy a sat nav that will put postcodes in order for you
  • I would but:

I'll get 40+ parcels at a time and a list of addresses which isnt in order... Im not sure that sat navs can go through and work out the best route or that they are able to hold 40+ addresses in one go?

I use to deliver parcels many years ago prior to sat nav. I assume you dont know the area that well.

When I delivered parcels I would write them down on a list but I knew in which order

sorry I know it doenst help but it may take time to learn a area

navman mio sat navs will put in order BUT might be limited to 20 you would have to check
  • Thanks Gardner1, Ill look into it.. Just seems like an app should exist out there somewhere!

And Antispam, unfortunely I am just cover at the moment which means I have the potential to cover over 20 different areas! So I have no chance to learn the routes at the moment until I get a permanent round!

Im really suprised that the courier company doesnt do it themselves to be honest, but they dont, I double checked!

Did courier work for several years, and always used maps rather than sat nav's as they sucked. when you have been doing it for a while you will get to know areas pretty well especially if only working in a certain area.

Google maps lets you pin point every location and then you can move them about until you find the shortist route... thn just mark on your list the order you need to drop them off 1,2,3,4, etc

I do home visits and use this to create a round trip rather than going back and forth.
