Hello
Just wondering if anyone could help. I did my towels wash today and they have come out with golden/brown stains all over them, some towels even have the pattern of the inside of the drum stained on them. Does anyone know what this is, why it happened and if I'll be able to clean my towels again?
It should be mentioned that the bearing is about to go on the machine, and a new one is arriving tomorrow (repair bill estimate £339, new machine better spec than the one I have £299.99).
But am I going to have to spend the extra £40 on new towels and bathmats?!
Thank you in advance xxx

I have had this happen to me before but clothes had blue spots on them as the load before I had put a new pair of jeans into the wash and the extra dye must have stayed in the machine drum.
I just put the clothes back in the machine with a colour catcher sheet and the dye came off the clothes.
Did you put any new clothes in the washing machine that was brown?

Thanks Tracey - It was just the normal 3 towels and bathmat from my bathroom, nothing else in the machine. Wondering if it could be burn marks?0

Some of mine have done this too so will watch this topic with interest.0

Oh gosh this happened to me and I found out what it was and fixed it. Now it has started happening again so I need to find it out again as I have forgotten!! I remember it was NOT rust or burn marks even though it looked like that. It was more like a build-up of something or other in the machine that was coming out on my stuff (mainly white towels here too). I think first thing to try is a maintenance wash, hot temp, empty drum, maybe add some washing soda. That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0

This also happened to me recently.Washed the things again and the marks came out. However machine has to be repaired now,it started making a terrible noise on the spin, banging noise was dreadful.Luckily have an insurance contract on the machine. The repairman said we need a new "tank", would have cost £105. So wondered if that had anything to do with the brown spots on my washing.0

Hi this has happened to me too when I'm washing towels. I think I have the answer. The towels are very heavy when wet and don't sit evenly in the drum-quite often banging when the washer spins. When the drum spins unevenly you get dirt/grease on the wash from the inner drum as it doesn't rotate properly and some build up of dirt is exposed.
In my experience the marks always wash out. Hope this helps. To do is to be. Rousseau

I'm only guessing, but if the drum bearings are on the way out, it's possible for the bearing seal to admit water into bearing and rinse greasy/rusty water back into the drum."We could say the government spends like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money."
