Part Time Work....

I live in a fairly small town and evening and weekend jobs are fairly few and far between.

I have a dayjob but I am looking for something extra to supplement my income.

Ideally something like working nightshift at Tesco but after answering three pages of silly questions on the application for I have been told that I do not have the necessary attributes...Nuts considering I am very willing to to this and have worked in Superstore management and replenishment.

I have looked at something like arise or other home based marketing schemes...I'm not so keen as I spend all day at a desk I would like to have an active second job.

Bar jobs are not really viable as the only place that has a requirement needs only 3 hours per week.

I have a bit of cash I would consider investing and setting up my own business. The obvious one for me is an evening and weekend type man with van or DIY type role.

Does anyone have experience in these and could they offer me any advice?

  • If you've worked in such business where did you go wrong on the application? can't you try again and say what they want to hear?

I'm self employed and do a whole range of stuff - gardening , odd jobs , one off parcel delivery etc. Neraly all of it cash in hand but I do declare a large portion of it and pay a stamp.

I sell kindling and logs to those with the new wood burning heater stoves that have become popular. I collect wood all year for this - £1 for a kilo bag of kindling, £7 for a large bag of quarter cut logs. I collect wood from the gardening jobs like cutting down leylandii.

The thing to do is start small don't charge too much and get a name for reliability , each job could lead onto another .

I might start a new thread on this as I'm getting into typing this all out!
