Following up after application close date

Hi all

I recently applied for a position which I'm really keen on (I'm not actively looking for work, but this position seemed perfect for me). I am confident that I meet all the criteria they are asking for, and due to a couple of specifics regarding the role, I think there would be a fairly small pool of applicants.

Applications closed a week ago today and I've not heard anything as yet. I'm just after opinions as to whether it's a bad idea to call the organisation to see if they've selected interview candidates or not? Is it too early? Is it never a good idea?

If I didn't get an interview, I'd be really keen to find out if they had any feedback on where they thought my weaknesses were etc, as this is the type of role I'd be aiming to move to at some point in the future.

Thanks!
T

You should really be chasing up direct applications without the WP telling you. I send one email asking if they have had a chance to look at my cv and if I have made the shortlist and if not could they give me any feedback on my CV. I got 2 replies last week but these are rare.

Personally having worked in recruitment and HR for a number of years i feel generally there isn't much to be gained from chasing up an application - the general rule is the company will contact you if interested. That said there are always exceptions, and i don't see what harm it can do. If you are polite and friendly, and only chase once then i don't see any employer that would take that as a negative against you, even if it was a mild irritation to them. Also if you are unsuccessful it may give you the chance to understand some feedback and see what you could change for next time

my last feedback was this ' This particular position involves a lot of copying, faxing and scanning.

We will however keep your details on file for a period of 6 months and contact you should a suitable opportunity arise in the future.

This was a really feedback I thought

Thanks for this - being a nuisance was what I was worried about. Discussed it with some friends and ended up calling late this afternoon. They're still shortlisting, so I'm still in with a shot!! :T
