Homemade beauty products ideas

What with this age of austerity and the new year (so new resolution to cut debt and spending) - I figured that addressing the amount I spend each year on beauty products would certainly help my financial goals. The thing is, I don't want to give up the 'beauty regime' part!
I got the idea this morning when I realised I had run out of hair masks and I got to thinking: isn't there a cheaper way than having to buy new ones? (I seem to recall something about making your own with olive oil?) And I remember hearing somewhere about revitalising old sticky nail varnishes with just a drop of nail varnish remover.
So, the aim of this thread is to share ideas on how to make our own beauty products, making what products we do buy last longer and aiming to not throw anything away. Possibly even someone might know about a beauty swapshop? (I know I've got products that I've bought, didn't like but can't return once used, and I know I wouldn't mind swapping it with something someone else has used once).
I'd like to know how to make face masks and hair masks, and I'm sure there are other ideas out there that could really help bring down the monthly beauty bill.
(And I'm sorry if there is another thread like this, I did do a search but couldn't find a dedicated homemade beauty ideas thread).

Hi Firemunchkin,
These older threads may help:
Home made beauty products
Home Made Beauty Treatments
Old Style - Beauty & toiletries
Money saving beauty tips!
Home kitchen beauty treats
OS beauty products
As we now have a Health, Beauty & Fashion MoneySaving board, most threads on homemade products are now posted there. If you do an advanced search on that board with 'homemade' as the title, you should find them easily. I'll move your thread over there shortly.
