Start ot Finish time for a Mortgage?

Hi all!
I know that the start to finish of a mortgage is an open question and some mortgages take longer than others. But... (just to say here that I live in Austria and that I’ve remortgaged my house in the UK for rental purposes) I've just had my remortgage completed and I’ve had cause to write to the mortgage company to complain about various items. One item they did not agree with was the length of time the application took. The application started on the 22 August 2001 and we finally got our mortgage completed on the 14 November 2001. That’s approx four months, from a company who are supposed to deal with expat mortgages.
We had a lot of problems with postage of documents for identity among other things, which would slow things up and the company did admit to this.
Basically I think that four months is way too long and I may take this issue further. We had real problems with cash flow during this time, which lead to a stressfull time.

What I would like to ask is: Is four months excessively a long time for a mortgage? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Thanks for your time, Dave Cooling

You are barking up the wrong tree - and to quote Dave Cooling, "some mortgages take longer than others".

I'd agree that you're barking up the wrong tree. Even if you weren't, I think you've left it too late to complain - 2001 was a long time ago!

By my reckoning 4 months from the 22 August, would be the 21st December. So you do seem to be exaggerating your case somewhat. Some 5 weeks to be precise.

A mortgage follows a due process. There's no specified time.
  • Ok... it seems i miss typed the year! and if it was 2001 then i would really need to see a doctor.
I get the message though... and i will 'let it go'.
    thanks!
