Claiming Tax Relief for using own car for work

Bit of advice required please .......

I currently use my own car for business purposes for which I'm reimbursed at the HRMC Advisory Fuel Rates

I've been using my own car since 1st Nov 2010 and have now done around 13K business miles
If I wanted a cheque from HMRC rather than a code adjustment to cover the tax relief, when would the best time to submit the claim be?

Some of my colleagues have had a cheque and some a code adjustment so it's not easy to work out the criteria for either and I suspect it's down to timing
Any ideas?

Hello there

If the mileage claim puts you into a repayment situation - you will receive a refund by HMRC (either as a cheque or a direct bank payment, depending upon what you indicate on the form).

They may well then have an adjustment to your PAYE code for future years.
