long story short I signed up for a house at uni for a 3rd year which I never lived in or paid for.
this ended in july 2010 and I've had the odd later asking for payment and have just ignored it but I have a letter now saying if I don't pay by tomorrow 5pm they are "instructed to commence country court proceedings for recovery of the outstanding sums."
it's about £4k.. I would like to pay like £150ish a month to get rid of it, shall I contact the firm and offer them this... what is the chance of them accepting? thanks alot

I would certainly contact them and see if they will be prepared to accept your offer. If they believe its all you can afford then they may well accept your offer and not take court action.
If they do agree then set up a standing order or pay manually - do not set up a direct debit or give them your card details. That way you control how much you pay.
They may decide to still take court action and if you do receive court papers then complete them to say that you wish to pay in installments. If the judge agrees that £150 is all you can afford then its likely that you will be allowed to pay at that rate.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
