Agency Worker

Hi
My wife has just started work through an agency in a local Building Society. We are just wondering what expenses she can claim from the Tax Man as we saw an article regarding claiming back the cost of cleaning her uniform. how much can she claim in a year?
Also, some of my friends are IT contactors, and they seem to be able to claim travel, meals and most stationary etc as expenses.
Is there anything else my wife can claim being an agency worker?
Thanks

The contractor expenses will be being claimed as self employed / umbrella company. If your wife is working straight through the agency on a PAYE basis she'll paid the same as an employee, so (as far as I'm aware), she can't claim the same expenses as a contractor.0

Fixed expenses may be available to an employee, there are criteria to be met first though. Is the work-wear logo-ed, is there laundering facilities available through the employer?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

scheming_gypsey is wrong. There are many things that someone on PAYE can claim the same as someone self employed including mileage, meal allowances etc however there are criteria to be met to claim them - for example to get the meal allowance you either need to start before 6am or work over a certain number of hours in a day and not have the ability to get home for your meal.
Mileage can be claimed if you have no fixed place of work however HMRC can treat an area as travelling to a fixed place rather than one specific office for agency workers.
Any claim would be done via a P87 Expenses in Employment at the end of the tax year.0
