I've had a wobble today on the positivity but feel slightly better now - many thanks.
Having worked with Shelter a lot over the years they have a idealogy of what is good, often the result is very different.
As ive said the council will look at the real reason for homelessness which was the rent arrears, not your family chucking you out.
Having read your version on here id say no chance in hell of the council saying yes, if the council do say yes ,be damm thankful .
Appeals can take up to 56 days with no duty to accommodate pending review , only if the decision is considered flawed in law.
Intentionally homeless decisions are made every day, each day by many councils and most are successful.
Id concentrate on getting your own accom and def not bank on accom via the social housing route.if only life was a box of chocs0 -
28k plus CB for a family of four is over 2k nett per month, and you cant afford private rental.
Where are you living.
go on the turn to us calculator to see what your actual benefit entitlements if any are.

Live in Surrey. We will do a SOA in due course but not in a position to do one now. (Hubby works in London so £400 goes on train fare straight away).
Thank you for being frank and believe you me, I am well aware of our reality. As the council have admitted,it is very unlikely that we will secure another private rented house because of our eviction. Should I just give up and call it a day then and not fight!!!! Beachy head seems a good destination for us don't you think! Had enough now.0 -
I sympathise with the difficult situation you find yourself in, but hopefully things can only get better from now on.
Forgive me asking a silly question, but you mentioned on another thread that your husband could not go bankrupt because he is a civil servant and he will lose his job if he goes bankrupt. I would strongly recommend that you doublecheck this as soon as you get a chance – I realise that it is not your top priority at the moment. There are a few jobs where bankruptcy is an issue, but as a former employer my own preference would be for someone who went bankrupt rather than somebody who was struggling on under an absolute mountain of debt.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Can you relocate somwhere cheaper, surrey is a expensive area. Not far ,but enough to be out of the surrey catchment area.
We have all been in your suitation ., so im saying it as it is.
It Took me five years to really understand the nature of my problem and still im not prob really there.
Two boys, housing need in surrey is a 2 bed flat or house till age 18. Not worth the hassle.
As all new builds are two up two down plus bathroom ie lounge kitchen , double bedroom and single to take bunk beds plus small garden and bathroom.
Can hubbie not relocate some where cheaper via civil service route for time and money
i did 17 years in london so do understand .
But you will get there beleive me.if only life was a box of chocs0 -
I was homeless 20 years ago, and in massive debt 10 years ago. I understand it's easier to concentrate on one problem at a time, but think you should also be ringing CCCS now. I never did write my own SOA, I found CCCS on google, rang them with a pile of bills in front of me, had a good cry down the phone and an hour or so later they had prepared my soa. A couple of days later having found 3 more debts I rang them back, had another cry and they altered the soa. Speaking with them and listenning to their advice gave me confidence to deal with our problems, saved our home and possibly our marriage. Good luck and keep your chin up.0
