PPI set up on my Vanquis card when i said i didn't want it

Hey guys.
I applied for a Vanquis credit card just for the purpose of getting cashback on topcasback.com.

Anyhow when i rang up to activate the card the girl gave me the hard sales on PPI - or repayment protection as they call it, and i told her at least 3 times on the call i DID NOT want it.
Anyhow she went ahead and signed me up for PPI and when i got my first credit card statement there was this extra repayment cover added- minimal less than £1 but thats not the point.
By the time i got my creditcard i had already sent off my full payment anyhow because i only used it like i say to qualify for the cashback site. So i rang Vanquis to say i didn't agree to this PPI and wasn't paying it. They said they would investigate but that i had to pay the PPI now otherwise i'd end up with a late payment charge.
So i had to send off another measley payment to the card to cover the PPI so that they wouldn't charge me.
They did eventually come back to me to say that they had listened to the call and it was their error. I had clearly said i did not want the repayment option.
So they refunded the PPI payment back onto the card.
However they didn't address the issue of the fact i had to chase this with them, the fact it was applied in error and the fact they made me pay the PPI.
Do you think i have any case for mis-applied PPI? Or am i better just closing off the rubbish card and forgetting all about the bad service?
All thoughts appeciated

Yes, but if it was about £1 , thats all they will refund you and its going to cost more to recover from them
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

How so? If you'd paid more than the minimum payment how could you be "late"?

My thoughts are what do you want to achieve?

Do you want money...an apology...flowers...some bad press for them...the FOS involved...or what?
  • I quote you.

Why did you apply for a rubbish card?. Its a card that serves a very good purpose if you use it as intended(sensibly)

Does what it says! I went from £250- £2500 in 18months then applied and got a mainstream card, then closed it.

Like YorkshireBoy pointed out i only applied for the card as TopCashback had an offer where you got something like £25 for applying for and being approved for Vanquis card. Otherwise i would never have applied for a Vanquis card in a million years!
So i used the card for something minimal that cost £5, and sent off a payment to them straight away for £5, but then when my statement came through it said my minimal payment was £5.80 odds including the PPI- so i had the hassle of arranging to send £0.80 odds so they wouldn't hit me with £12 late charge for PPI i told them i didn't want.

As for what i want to achieve, who knows. All i'm saying is if the customer makes a mistake we generally are hit financially, whereas when the company makes a mistake they don't want to know
  • Why do you not come out and say it - you want compo!
  • The PPI is included on a Vanquis as a charge so if you paid £5 min. payment the PPI is added as a charge so you don't HAVE to pay it unless you want to clear your full balance.

Anyway PPI is £1.23p per £100 so how did you get 80p charge for £5?
  • This also happened to me....and my goodness calling them up asking for it to be cancelled was ridiculous! I'd have been able to get blood from a stone easier but long story short, i emailed the CEO and then someone called to say they had removed it and refunded the payment made so happy in the end!
Any input I provide is purely my own interpretation and is in no way 100% accurate, I will try to help as best I can in all cases.

The Repayment Option Plan sold by Vanquis although very similar in apperance to a PPI plan is not one at all according to them and unfortunately others. They will tell you that themselves that they don't offer insurance so there is no chance of a PPI Claim so I would love to know how others got money back so I can try. All that this plan does is freezes the debt for a period of time if you couldn't pay for whatever reason or even for just a break like it offered every year or so if you could pay. So they say that its not insurance but to me its definately just them charging for freezeing your debt for a small time period when your most likely are strugling, a service that most decent credit companies might do for free to stop you defaulting on your debt.

I got trapped into it myself by Vanquis giving me a cold call one day and they were like others own experinces with their sales staff being very pushy in selling this crap plan along with other stupid things like a pay monthly money off voucher club, even know I was unemployed at that time with a chronic illness which I did tell them all about and which would not have been covered by a PPI plan. Plus at that time I was only able to pay the minimum and it actually made my debt total go up instead of down slowly like you would have expected, great for a card thats aimed for people with bad credit scores.

Im just not surprised that all the banks didn't block the PPI claims in the first place by saying it was in the small print and you should have read them like they do for everything else.
