Going travelling and tax rebates

Hi, my daughter is going travelling next for 6 months. Will she be able to claim a tax rebate and how does she go about it please. I have checked the HRMC site and cannot find any reference to rebates if going for less than a year. There are several companies that will do this for you but they seem to charge quite a hefty fee in comparison to what she may be entitled to. She is currently on PAYE and goes next week so will have January- April with no earnings.

thanks

She will have to wait till after 6th April 2012 to claim (start of the next tax year).

This is because HMRC will not know what her income till then will be, as people have been known to resign, claim back any tax deducted from wages, and then work again till the end of the tax year.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news if she was hoping to use this money for her holiday spends.

Is she remaining on the books of her employer and returning there to work after her travels, or is she being paid up and getting a P45 from them?

I only had a small glass.

We're looking after a friend's house / dogs at the moment. Their 'day to day' wine glasses were £80 each - it says so on the individual boxes. We use the small tumblers! Doesn't taste as good - but feels better.

Please note that in order to break residence you have to leave the UK for at least a full UK tax year.

As that's not the case, it is possible she won't get any kind of refund as personal allowances etc are run on an annual basis and don't take into account periods of non-residence.

If you'd like, post up just her YTD taxable pay and YTD tax and I'll work out if anything is refundable.

    residencey isn't the issue
one can fill in a R50 even if you stay resident in the UK if you know that you will have no further income in this tax year
amazingly the HMRC will believe you
