When I worked in a pub kitchen, we used to make batter out of seasoned self raising flour and add beer until it turned into a thick batter, came out lovely.
Zippy - You can always do them the old fashioned way, put a couple of cm of oil into a pan and heat.We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
That's what I'm talkin about! SOunds great thanks. batter confuses me you see. Would that be the same batter you would use for battered chicken? Then you have yorkshire batter and pancake batter. It's not all the same, is it? Or is it?
:o

Pancake and yorkie is same but seasoning...and maybe thickness.
I quite like the vinegar and flour batter that Brian the Yorkie chef makes. It's ace with fish.
I add curry powder and maybe a little coriander to batter for onion rings sometimes.

I think they are essentially the same, although usually my Yorkshire batter is definantly thicker than my pancake batter (but then, I don't exactly have a 100% success rate with Yorkshires
)
Timmmers - Great idea about adding herbs/spices to batter - never even occurred to me! Nom nom nomWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
right so yorkie batter is thicker? Ok.... And when you say seasoning, I take it you just miss the salt and pepper for pancakes?
Ill have to try the beer batter, it sounds delicious!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men :cool:
