Delete "default" from credit file

Hi all,

I really would liek some help with something.

I got into some debt in 2006 but arranged payment plan using a debt management company. All started off ok, got the plan sorted and started paying. All payments were made to the management company which forwarded the proportions to the creditors. To ensure the timing was ok, I set up a direct debit to them.

I recently requested my credit file to check if I could soon think about mortgage. I have nearly paid all off, no credit was taken out since.

However, It shows that Natwest put a default notice on my file in Jan 2009. I don't understand as I was with the management company and found my bank statements to show that all was paid on time. I can only presume that this company didn't forward the money to Natwest on time. I don't recall getting any letters notifying me. But then again, i was not aware that the company never updated my files with the creditors such as new address or even phone number.

Can I dispute the default since i believe it was not my fault?

Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

Presumably natwest were on of your unsecured creditors?

When you enter a debt management plan you pay less than the contracted minimum payment and it is usual for creditors to issue a default to show that you have defaulted on the original payments. Its unusual that it was put on as late as 2009 if your DMP started in 2006.

  • Hi, It was overdraft and I could not keep up so decided to deal with it with a management plan. It shows the plan start date as 2007 and defaulted on Jan 2009.

I just don't know what to do. If it was the start date marked as default, I would not worry as next year the 6 year period would be up. Like this I wont be able to do much till 2015.
